Need a Hand

After looking for two days now, I can only come to the conclusion that the "dial caliper" thief has struck again, but this time he hit my place and targeted my .172" Lyman neck turner mandrel for my old trimmer/turner. Lyman doesn't list one anymore, so I'm looking for a substitute.

Would some of you take the measurement on your pilot shanks and tell me if there is a brand that is the same or even very slightly larger in diameter than the .138" shank of the Lyman?

Even better; if you find a Lyman .172" mandrel wasting away in the bottom of your parts drawers, I would be more than happy to buy it from you. Thanks all.[/QUOTE

I think drill rod that diameter is available...MSC Industrial Supply.

lyman makes a 17 cal pilot. isee grafs has them

I only see .17 caliber pilots, not mandrels. I think I have it under control though. Both @Terry and @Intheshop offered to turn mandrels for me. Terry jumped in and has one done for me. My deepest thanks to both Terry and intheshop for their kind responses. Thankfully, Terry wanted verification on the exact sizes and I found that the .138" shank I originally specified was wrong. I had just grabbed and measured the shank of a pilot and not the shank of a mandrel not thinking of the difference in use. The mandrel shank is quite a bit bigger at .186". Pilots fit into a cutter head for trimming while the mandrel fits into a turning housing.

Again, my thanks to everyone that offered ideas or help. Good bunch of people to rely on.
