After looking for two days now, I can only come to the conclusion that the "dial caliper" thief has struck again, but this time he hit my place and targeted my .172" Lyman neck turner mandrel for my old trimmer/turner. Lyman doesn't list one anymore, so I'm looking for a substitute.

Would some of you take the measurement on your pilot shanks and tell me if there is a brand that is the same or even very slightly larger in diameter than the .138" shank of the Lyman?

Even better; if you find a Lyman .172" mandrel wasting away in the bottom of your parts drawers, I would be more than happy to buy it from you. Thanks all.

I always find things to be in the last place I look;)... it’s not installed either right?.... like looking for glasses on your head..been there done that bought the t-shirt.. a couple times:oops:... any idea what the Lyman part number is?

Ok, I really do enjoy the creative humor, but is anyone measuring their mandrel shafts (the part that goes into the cutter body) so I can get an idea of a brand that might be a fit? Don't care what caliber it's for, shaft size should be the same for specific cutters and is all I want. As I said, .138" is the size shank that is ideal for my old bench-mount Lyman.

Do you know somebody with a lathe?

I see Forster says they will make them to customer specs... just a thought
Might be worth a call since they are only 60 miles away. Pretty sure they mean mandrel diameter rather than shank, but who knows?

No, I have most common sizes (.22 through .45) but am missing my .172" mandrel. I had one for years (even though Lyman claims they didn't make it) but haven't been able to find it since I last used it. I do have my .172" pilot, but not the mandrel.
