need a good load for barnes XLC in 6.5-284

any one care to share a good load for the 6.5-284?
BARNES XLC`S 140 GRAINERS FLAT BASE.

please help, hunting season is starting down here and want a good load.

I only have loaded triple shocks in 270 win but never in the 6.5-284, my experience with the triple shocks was awesome, but I have only heard bad things about these XLC`s...

do you really gain +200 ft/s? do they shoot?

Joe

I was able to get 4200 fps with some XLCs in my .22-250; however, they did shoot great just shot my barrel out really fast. As they say, velocity kills! I never really thought they meant barrels!

Jeffry the XLC's have that blue coating on them, there have been claims of increased velocity.

I have tried the .224's in a 223 and 22-250 my rifles did not like them. Best group in the 223 was 3 inches and in the 22-250 they wouldn't group at all.

I have tried several different calibers in these bullets. I have yet to try anything that grouped as I thought it should. I talked to Barnes on one occasion and they said to seat the bullets .050 from the lands and that was the magic number. Well, groups got worse. I give up long time ago on these supposedly ACCURATE bullets. Just my experience. Bill

I'd try H-4831 first and H-4350 second.
Usually with the older X bullets,pre-triple shock) your barrel either liked them or despised them. No in-between.
I had a Lilja in 284 Win. that I was determined to shoot the 120's in. After 9 different powders, read: slow learner)I gave up and settled on Sierra's 140 SBT and an honest 1/2" Moa.
Point is, don't spend a lot of time on the impossable.

There ain't no good load for that bullet...if it is accuracy your lookin for...use Sierra or Berger and have fun shooting and hunting....you gotta hit em to kill em...Roger

Roger, you are absolutely right. It is a waste of time to try and get accuracy out of those things. I tried every caliber from .22 to .30 I think and have never had any success whatsoever with them. And as I said above that magical .050 from the lands ain't worth one nickel. Bill
