6.5-284 load testing

i have a 6.5-284 and am starting to do some testing but am wanting a little advice on load testing it is a long range hunting rifle not a comp rifle. it is an 8 twist and shootin a 140 berger in front of4831 sc and cci br primer at what range do i test and why 1-2-300 yds thanks john

The effects of important factors on trajectory and terminal performance of bullets only begin to be visible on the target at about 300 yards. If you are going to shoot at longer distances, it is best to do your load development at the longest possible range and at least 300 yards if possible.

I agree with 300 yds. for testing. Try some H4350 it has worked out better for me with 140 gr. bullets.

If you are looking for loads for 139-142 gr bullets, don't forget RL-22. This is a bit slower than H4350 and has given excellent results. Start around 50 gr and work up. I use Lapua brass and Wolf primers.
