Need $400 Laser RF opinions / reports

I need a new LRF. I think it's down to the Vortex HD4000 and the Leupold RX-2800 TBR/W. My budget is right around $400 and both of these fit. I need to laser steel out to 1500Y.

Are there any caveats with these that I should know about? I'm favoring the Vortex because of the lifetime warranty.

I would go for the Vortex warranty. I got the razor4000 a few years ago on sale, it was not quite right and had to send it back. It was fixed quickly and has been great since.

My Razor HD4000 has been great. I got it last year on sale and a 20% site wide discount happening at Academy for $385. Watch for holiday deals if you aren’t in a hurry.

Leupold doesn't have extended warranty on their rangefinders. They offered me a 'good deal' if I bought a new one, but I went with a Vortex. And told Leupold just that. Maybe a bit more....

I went with a used Leica B-2700. I used to carry a monocular for scanning, but now I just use the 7x Leica - it's crystal clear. I also have a Zeiss rangefinder, but the optics are not nearly as clear to me. I personally wouldn't buy another product.

You can pick up used Leicas at a decent price many times off of Ebay. A better rangefinder than either of those mentioned. A lot of them get bought for a hunt and never used after.

Well, so much for my preferences, a good deal won out.

I ended up with a Sig 2200BDX for $227. It was hard to justify jumping up to $400 when this will probably do 90+% of what I need. Maybe it'll be better than my partners 2200 (Non BDX).

Thanks all.

Ive had the same issues with ranging targets past 800 yds with some of the Sig's
Hope your luck is better than mine, I sold them. They worked, just not all the time.

Well ... I took it to a match today. It was occasionally raining and had maybe a 5% fog/haze. Honestly, it was barely noticeable, some would argue I'm giving the Sig an excuse at the failure. It wouldn't range past 600'ish yards, and it wasn't raining. I didn't get any readings on a full sized IPSC @ 685. The fella with the Vortex Fury ranging binoculars easily ranged stuff at 1100.

I guess I'll take the Sig 2200 back.

From what I hear Leica is the best option...If you want to range past 800 or 1000 yds.
Dont have one and dont need one....but if I did thats the one id look at.
