Necking down the 6.5x47

Could a guy use a fl dasher or br die to neck down the 6.5x47 or is the shoulder of the lapua too big? I will be using a bushing die and am trying to avoid buying a full length die just for necking the brass down.

I have never found bushing dies to be very reliable for necking down.. I always use a regular F/L die for that job. You can collapse the neck into the shoulder... AND make sure you have a "better than normal" outside chamfer on the case...

I think you misunderstood my post. I know bushing dies are not the best choice for necking down. Thats why I asked if I can use a dasher or br FL die, so I dont have to buy a 6x47 fl die.

Well, I looked at some reamer prints and the 6br has pretty much has the same shoulder diameter and shoulder angle so it should work just fine for necking down.

I would spend the lil amount of cash and get a 6x47L FL die for necking down. You won't stuff up brass and will get a better result. I would just remember to take out the decapping rod and then use an 6mm expander mandrel to neck back up to proper 6mm size as the dies without decapping rods will neck down a tad to much.

You could use the BR die. But take your time working it down to correct height. Also remove decapping rod aswell from that one.

I use a Forster 6MM Norma BR die to neck down 6.5x47L brass all the time. I also neck 222Rem down to 204 with a bushing die. Never lost a case that I can remember.

If you get a Redding Comp set, the body bump die does a brilliant job of taking it down. Use that die then the neck bushing die to finish off
