Neck turning

Tube Micrometer Reloading Ball Spherical Anvil

If the head of the tube is flat and .200” diameter, it makes a huge difference how deep the brass is on the anvil. Try it and see what I mean. Vary the measurement depth ever so slightly and you’ll get different measurements. Does anyone know someone that grinds the tube mic heads to a truncated cone so the area of contact with the brass is much smaller?? That is what most people, myself included, need for their tube mics.

Me too. But someone has to take these tube mics and grind the head to a smaller diameter by tapering the head. Like this:

Come on guys, someone has to offer a service to do a special grind on these tube mics, right? I know I cannot possibly be the only one that has thought of this. SOMEONE HELP ME. LOL.

You might be able to get one of those balls that's held onto the anvil of a mic with a piece of rubber. I had one somewhere. Going to have to look for it now lol. It would be the same as having a tube mic that measured between two balls.

Scroll down to tips. part #2313A11 $3.34. Or use the cone version.

I think someone must modify mics by grinding the spindles down.

Do you guys also neck turn after a few firings cleaning up the neck thickness as brass flows foward and can build back up on necks from 1st Neck turn when brass was new.

Absolutely. Check your necks after a few firings and if there is any change hit them again to knock down the high spots.

Mitutoyo has some with the spindles tapered down to a smaller land. Some multi anvil mics have different adapters, but they are pretty spendy.
