Neck Turning

Is there any point to neck turning Lapua 6 BR brass that's ready to load that the necks are .001" or less out of round? The rifle is a Savage action with a PacNor barrel with a "no turn" chamber.

Depends on what you are looking for and what chamber you have. If you are looking for getting the most from your gun that you can , you most certianly would want to at least "clean them up". Just because they are "only .001 out of round", you have to look at the wall thickness. Once you use an expander, and expand the necks, then measure the thickness. Thats where you need to look closely. A .001 difference in wall thickness is HUGE!!!

I personally never turn brass for my factory chambers, but do for every single one of my non factory chambers.

When the two of you mentioned "wall thickness", it rang my bell. I didn't take that into account. Sorry for the newby question.

This site will teach you soooooo much. Even when you know the answers... some times you just go blank.

Good luck!!

It`s hard to say if you would get any improvement in acuracy or not. If you do it will only be enough to help if your shooting compation. The more you turn off your necks the more they expand and the shorter the case life. When I turn neck I like .002 of neck expantion and cases last a long time. With no turn chambers you probly get far more than that now.
