Neck turning without resizing first, just use appropriate mandrel?

Reading up a bit on what guys are doing for turning before/after fire forming for a 6BRA. Sounds like most, turn unfired, initial fire form, F/L size (or use custom made neck only die) to size right tight to the shoulder, then turn again.

If there any reason you couldn't (or shouldn't) just turn fired cases immediately after fire forming if you buy a 1-thou under fired inner diameter mandrel? Or a matching set of 2 though over (expand it just a little more) the fired inner diam mandrel and then put it on 1 thou less than that mandrel to support i like you would after a F/L sizing operation?

I'm wondering if you can reasonably avoid the dance of having to F/L size (and often set the shoulder back too much unless you get a custom die) and re-fire form it a second time before moving to a "normal" bushing die.

you shouldn’t bump shoulder back to much with any die if you set it up correctly.
Resize, use correct mandrel and expand then turn. For Dasher and Brx I turn virgin brass then fire form I would assume you could do the same.

I've found that my cheapo F/L sizing dies that I use only before turning tend to give the body and base way more squeeze (well under sammi min usually) than my "normal" redding bushing dies. So even if I set them up to not bump the shoulder back much/any - the case bodies are still getting quite a squeeze put on them.

If you are turning necks because you have a tight neck chamber, you can't safely fire form before you turn the necks because you won't have proper clearance....

In my case it will be a no turn neck, just skimming them for consistency. I can probably get away without even doing a second turn since i'll be bushing sizing and it won't size the shoulder/doughnut junction any way.

Mainly just curious why guys don't just buy up-sized mandrels and turn fired cases straight away whenever necessary/needed. It just never really crossed my mind before - always have done the non-bushing F/L size, expand, -.001 mandrel+turn process previously.

As mentioned above, there are sometimes undesirable effects of that process.
