Neck turning.... what determines if you have to do it or not??

Some of the advise I got about buying a 6BR was to get a no turn neck chamber. I would assume this has to do with the tolerances built into the chamber but I'm guessing. What do i look for?? Thanks_DRG

Sometimes the neck diameter will be stamped on the outside of the barrel with the caliber. If it isn't stamped you would need the reamer print or a cast of the chamber to determine neck diameter. The owner should know whether it is a no turn chamber. Brian Brown.

Ok, thats what I was thinking it would be... just needed the specs, thankyou...

If you have the older chamber (.269 nk) is it possible to clearance the neck to make it a no turn? or would it just be cheaper to re-barrel?

If by clearance the neck, you mean re-reaming the chamber neck only, make sure you use a reamer that won't change the freebore. Different rates of twist require different reamers.

drgunlimited,if you have a .269 neck that is a tight neck chamber and you still will have to turn necks.
the .271 and .272 were no neck turn chambers.
the new lapua brass is close to .001 to .0015 thinner in the neck so everyone was going to the .2705 neck dia as the no turn neck chamber. so if you do not want to turn necks you need a .2705 to .272 neck dia in your chamber.
so you can just load and shoot.
