Neck turning question

75¢ won't buy me a cup of coffee! Thanks for your support.

:) You're right there, pard!

Hold on, though. Best deal in the world is a large coffee, with one refill, at the golden arches for a buck. That's gotta be less than 75¢ a cup. Better java than that crap at Stealbucks, too.

Some time ago I was fire-forming brass and was pointing my rifle at about a 30 degree angle for each shot and then I was interrupted by several club members, one wearing a badge, and was lectured on how far a rifle bullet might travel. I remember hearing the word, "STUPID" (who me!). An exhibit of my ammo having a wad of TP stuffed into the mouth of each case and the pungent odor of burning carbohydrate laden COW did little to dispel their angst (worry/nervous). From that time on, I was viewed with suspicion by others at that range (possibly other stuff may have entered into the situation).

Future fire-forming operations were done by shooting into a 4 inch, 3 foot long capped ABS pipe in my garage (loud pop). Cautions were observed to limit exposure to lead stephynate, that after a certain time would have turned my fingernails blue. The blast of COW & TP coated the entire inside of the pipe. This woman I knew had lead poisoning and was subjected to a long period of chelation therapy to remove the lead in her blood. That woman was into art ceramics and used lead and other stuff to make pretty colors on plates, cups and stuff; when she offered me beer I drank it straight from the bottle or can.

Just think of the money I saved on bullets!

Last month, after a long drive, we stopped for coffee at a Golden Arch location because the green mermaid was closed and that coffee was every bit as good.

The shooting range would be one of the last places I would perform bulletless fireforming. Anywhere indoors would be another. Having said that, your fellow club members seem unusually dense. May I ask what corner of the country you live in?

I live in Alabama. Belong to a private club that is surrounded by residential homes. We are down in a small canyon. The point I was attempting to make, is some guys would read the different process noted in this thread and would go straight to their range and point their rifle in the air and start fire forming by the COW method. This is due to very competent people stating that is how they do it. What should be noted as a disclaimer is a firearm pointed in a safe manner according to their range rules or environment conditions.

A novice just starting to turn necks that have legitimate questions, is a long way from venturing into how we can form tight neck brass by COW, false shoulders or forming 30 BR brass down a 6mm barrel etc. Mentoring a protégé is a wonderful thing and self satisfaction to most. I personal feel there is never an end to improve ones skillset.
