Neck turning fired brass

I have run into an issue and need to turn my fired brass down some more. My issue is that I have full length bushing dies and they do not size down the full length of the neck. I need to size down the full length of neck so I can follow up with the expander mandrel and then neck turn.

What options do I have to get this brass neck turned? Or is it ok to use the fl bushing die, expand and then turn even though the full neck is not sized down?

I did not want to spend $60-$80 on a full length die just to get my necks turned and then not use them again.

Thanks

I ran into the same issue, fortunately for me my expander mandrel would expand the necks of the fired brass just a fuzz so I didn't need to worry about sizing then expanding back out.

Might be worth it to see if that's the case for you.

Give me some specifics. How thick are your walls now and what do they need to be? What's size is the ID of a fired round?

Just buy the die, use it, sell it, unless you plan on making the same mistake again then keep it!

The only problem is that the reamer is a set dimension and you cannot adjust for depth of cut. So I'm guessing the reamer would have to be custom ordered?

I only need to turn 1-1.5 thousandths more.

Neck wall is currently .0135". I need to go down to .0125". Not sure on fired rnd. Inner diameter. I'm in Texas and away from my brass in sunny AZ. Can't measure till Monday.

Just noticed that hornady makes a 7mm neck sizer. They claim it works with several 7mm cartridges. They offer it in small, med and large depending on case.

You can buy a decimal reamer from McMaster Carr in any dimension you want. I might even have what you need.

How many pieces of brass to you have to do?

I just got off the phone with hornady and they make a universal neck sizer (std. , med and magnum) depending on the case being used. It only sizes the neck and can be adjusted to size any amount of neck needed.
I will be using a standard 7mm neck sizer from them which should work with the 284w, 284 Shehane and the 280AI. These go for $25 so for my needs it should work out.
I'll update after I get to use it.
