I will be needing to turn Necks for the new rifle I have coming. .284 Win.

What's your thoughts on these 2 units? Any thing bad with either one?

21st Century or PMA Model A

Thanks,

Jeff

Haven't used the PMA so can't make a comparison. I use the 21st century handheld one and it works for me.

Both companies make fine products. I would not be afraid to buy either, and would expect to be able to do an excellent job with either one. That said, I have the PMA turner and it is a work of art. I have to tell a story on myself. When I first read that it adjusts by moving the mandrel rather than the cutter my reaction was that this seemed odd and I doubted its practicality, something on the order of "What could he have been thinking?" Well, I was wrong. It is a great tool. I say this having just used mine to turn 100 case necks. I can also recommend his power driving setup, and on that subject announce an new improvement. He has an attachment that increases the diameter of the holder/driver to about 2" to make it easier and faster to use. It is about 3/4" thick and made of delrin, like a smooth bore split lock ring. I will be writing up a report with pictures a little later, but thought that you might be interested. It makes a very good tool even better. In case you are not aware of the differences, both the 21st and PMA setups have posts that go in the primer pockets of cases so that they are better centered and do not require that the level of tightening that other tools require so that a case will not spin out under the load of a heavy cut. This feature is worth its weight in gold. Cases run with a lot less wobble and the whole operation is easier, especially with the addition of the new larger grip adapter that is specific to the PMA tool.
