NECK TENSION

As Bart said, the barrel will dictate seating depth. Went to the range yesterday with a Remington 700, 22-250. Had the bullets seated on the lands and it shot terrible. Also had some seated a few thousands off and it was noticeably better. Now I will run a latter test to find the right depth.

Hook a hand scale on a bullet puller gripping the bullet all horizontal on a table top. The cartridge head in a shell holder fixed in place.

Pull the bullet noting the scale reading. Measure 5 rounds to get an average.

Commercial ones like arsenals used on military ammo cost several hundred bucks

A bushing that is .002" under the loaded round diameter generally works for me with my 6BR's. I got this from the Redding site. 'Course I'm kind of an oddball--I use a Lee Collet die for sizing my necks most of the time.
Finding much less sized case runout with uniform neck tension sizing with a lee collet die Verses sizing with a Redding Competiton bushing die and Redding S Die with bullets seated with a wilson inline seater die and arbour press gauge seating force of 20 psi
Neck tension between 1 to 4 thousands is a good range to try too much neck tension can induce increased runout which i try to keep to minimum
I also neckturn virgin Lapua brass and anneal every fire also nylon bruss case necks and use fine graphite powder to aid uniform bullet seat.

Have your measured the neck wall thickness of all of your cases and separated them accordingly?
Do you have your cases neck re-annealed after ever 5 to 8 reloadings?
If you have not or do not do either you are pissing in the wind.
