Neck size ID

Planning to shoot a 6BR in Benchrest. I would appreciate some feedback on the recommended inside neck ID....after case sizing? My thought is to use a dry lube inside the neck or applied to the bullet.

Loaded round neck diameter minus 0.003" (minimum) total clearance of what your chamber neck is. Neck ID is wrong approach due to bullet diameters varying , case neck thickness variation, difficulty in measuring and a host of other reasons.

Concentrate on the OD of a loaded round in relationship to the diameter of the neck chamber. Usually a total clearance of .002" [.001" on each side] with a tight-neck or minimum-neck chamber ensures that the barrel's axis [center line] approaches alignment with the bullet's axis. The more center lines you match up the more chances you have of not deforming bullets as they start through the barrel. [The less deformation the truer they'll fly. *Rifle Accuracy Facts by Harold R. Vaughn]

Apply tension to the bullet by using a Full Length Bushing Die. Usually .001" to .004" of neck tension is applied using Bushings whose ID tighten in increasing .001" increments.

If the interior edge of the case neck is chamferred properly there's no need for lube of any kind, in the neck, or on a bullet.

Stuff the chamferred and deburred case neck inside a handful of 0000 steel wool and turn it with a power tool to slick things up if you want. :)
