Neck clearance ?

How much clearance do you like between the case neck and the chamber neck. ?

Do tight necks , .003, shoot better than a neck with .005 (.0025 per side)clearance?

What caliber? Generally speaking it's more a brass life issue than an accuracy issue. They are one and the same at some point, regardless of caliber.--Mike Ezell

I would rather have a little more than not enough. I want a good release on the bullet. Lee

my first 22br taught me about neck clearance. my neck was .251, so i turned necks so that i had .003 thous clearance. i didn't check during the turning process and ended up with a good many necks that were not thinned enough. shot some with the .003 clearance, then got into the tight ones...blown primers and groups that were not good. i adjusted powder charges, etc but to no avail.. finally got to measuring loaded rounds and the were .250! TOO TIGHT! turned everybody and measured and all went well. when i had a 22BRX made, i was very carefull to measure, measure and measure. attention to detail does pay off.
