This year marked the 8th annual Andrews Memorial Tournament at the Tacoma Rifle and Revolver Club (TRRC). Shooters from Oregon and various parts of Washington shot Heavy Varmint on Saturday and 5-shot Unlimited matches on Sunday for the Northwest Regional.
Saturday was cool in the morning with light-breezy to mild conditions. We began with our Heavy Varmint match at 100 yards which was won by Jeff Lewis with a .2036 agg. The afternoon warmed up and the sun was out in full force when shooting at 200 yards began. Throughout the afternoon shooting, the mirage was considerable and it was not uncommon to hear shooters mention that this is the worst mirage ever seen at this range and that the target was “washed out” to where you could not see the rings in the target. There were many wind switches and variable wind conditions so a lot of shooters used the sighter target to figure out their holdovers. Steve Kostanich handled the mirage and tough wind conditions the best by winning with a .3128" agg.
Bryan Zolnikov held on to win the HV grand aggregate with an agg of .2874", Steve Kostanich in 2nd with a .2914" agg, and Jeff Lewis in 3rd with a .2952" agg.
Sunday morning brought some mild temps and the wind started moving the flags as early as 7am. Super Jeff Crose and Bryan Zolnikov discussed this early indication of wind and came up with the following proverb: Wind at night, shooters delight. Wind early in the morning, shooters take warning.
We shot Unlimited at 200 yards in the morning. Jeff Lewis shot a .1792 agg. to win the yardage. That afternoon at 100 yards, Eric Stanton took the yardage with a fantastic .1720 agg. Eric Stanton held on to win the Unlimited grand aggregate with a .1823 agg., Jeff Lewis in 2nd with a .1964 agg, and Jeff Crose in 3rd with a .1978 agg.
Jeff Lewis had a great consistent weekend overall and won the 2-gun with a .2458" agg. Congratulations Jeff on some fine shooting!
