My Sightron Shit the Bed....

I've been a big Sightron fan the last several years, more specifically the S-Tacs in 3-16x42.

I got a new upper built and was doing load work the other day and found a great load. I continued testing a couple more bullets, and ended up the day shooting one more group with my "great" load, which ballooned to unacceptable. I reasoned that it was due to a dirty barrel, so packed my stuff and went home.

The next night I had 20 rounds I loaded to test at 1-2-300, starting with a clean barrel. I set the parallax, dropped the bolt, and the scope got fuzzy. So I reset the AO, shot a round, and it got fuzzy again. I tried a couple three more, and it was obvious that something was not up to snuff.

I took it off this morning, and it sounded like a baby's rattle when I shook it. It's boxed up and on the way. Now I'm wondering when it started going south in my testing, as the last couple bullets I tested were pretty ugly, which I assumed the barrel didn't like.

I can't recall when I originally mounted this scope. It does have at least 500 or so on it, or possibly over 2K. All off the bench, never hunted or packed, always cased in transit.

This is not a Sightron bash, just a "This happened to me" post. They'll fix it, and I'll keep using them.....

S-Tac is at the bottom of the Sightron line. I have 2 of them. 400.00 scopes. One is on a Springer air rifle with thousands of shots. Pretty tough life for a scope and it holds POI. So be glad you have a Sightron, I have never heard of a warranty repair issue with them. And unlike some other big name scope companies they don't throw you under the bus, they fix it. Period, no lecture on your rings are faulty, you don't know a screw driver from a nut driver, just good , quick, honest service living up to their warranty.

I have 4 stac. All are 4-20 modles. 2 years ago i took my AR out that has one on it. I was shooting at 300 yards, if i went passed 12 power it was fuzzy as hell. Could not get to focus. I had been having some headaches so just thought was messing with my eyes. 2 weeks later i took it back out along with another rifle with same scope on it. The one on the AR was so fuzzy could not see good passed 12 power. The one on my bolt rifle was clear. I sent it in with a detailed letter. About a week and a half later they sent me a brand new one. Not a bash here eather as i would buy another. Cant always make a 100% perfect product.

I have two S-Tacs, bought on sale for 250.00 each and at that price I had to try them, impressive for the money and I felt like if I ever had a problem Sightron was a solid company and would warranty them. I’ve never had a problem and I’ll be watching how this plays out, always good to know how a company handles these things.

I bought a used 4-20 S-Tac off the classifieds here and really didn't know alot about them. It was purchased as a "temporary" scope just so I could get shooting with a new rifle that followed me home. 2 years later that scope is still on that rifle. More magnification would certainly be beneficial but that S-Tac I believe has made me a better shooter because it makes me concentrate more. Like others have said tracking and overall reliability has been excellent. I have since bought 2 more when Camera Land had them on sale.

Op, you’re in good hands. Like many mentioned above, their warranty has been top notch by everyone I’ve talked to or read about that has had to use it. And that’s not many so that’s even better. I’ve got 2 SIII’s and love them, and have had quite a few others over the years with no issues.
Please follow up with how everything goes.

You have a clear problem, and they should be able to fix it.
The seals blew on my S III. and it would fog up inside when I went hunting, rendering it useless in the field. The internal condensate would clear after a day.
I sent it in with a letter explaining the problem. They said nothing was wrong with it and sent it back.
It's only because I'm such a string saver that I don't throw it out.

A testament of sorts for Sightron........Something that I notice when looking for used scopes for sale is the rare occasion that a Sightron pops up. There are always Leupold, Vortex, Bushnell, Zeiss, Swaro and others but seldom do I see a Sightron for sale.

Update.....

I called today to bring me up to speed on my scope. Tracking showed they received it last Monday. It's fixed and shipped out today, delivery due back to me on Thursday.

I was told the front lens had come loose. Certainly can't complain about the customer service.

Glad they took care of you.

I own a bunch of Sightrons, mostly the SIII LR series. But I also own several of the S-Tac's all 4-20 MOA-2 reticle.

I bought a used SIII LR 8-32 on this forum. The parallax adjustment was stiff to turn, much harder than my other 8-32's. So off to Sightron it went. Fixed it all up, included a scope coat and had it back in less than 2 weeks. I searched the sales history on my scope and found the guy that I bought it from had purchased it about a month before I bought it. I guess he discovered the stiff adjustment and decided to part company with it. He sold it for $100 less than he paid for it. So I was Ok with that.

UPS had a hell of a time figuring out what day to delivery my scope. Initial delivery was to be yesterday, then they changed it to today, then changed it back to yesterday, then about noon yesterday back to delivery today. It was just handed off to me a few minutes ago.

Note says they replaced the objective lens, cleaned the inside of the ocular lens, tested the scope for holding zero in their indoor testing center, cleaned, and reset back to factory specs.

I'll get 'er mounted today and sighted back in tomorrow.

Thanks Sightron.

I own several Sightron and love them. Building myself a new hunting rifle and was considering the S-tac 4-20. Anyone care to chime in on its low light ability? Also, weight? Will be going on a 6-250 in a remington action, so no big boomers. Just a simple woods walking gun.

I have 2 and like them. But not for your application. That price scope will not be one of the better low light scopes normally. Reticle is way to fine for the woods. I would be looking for a straight 6x Leupold or I think Meopta still has one.

I tried to find a 6x Meopta about 18 months ago and ended up with 6x42 Leupold. I think that Meopta has dropped the 6x. I agree that higher power scopes are not a good choice for woods rifles. The 2,5x8 Leupold was always my woods rifle scope of choice. I found that I usually had it set on 6X.
