My new Prone2Success rifle case (added some pics.)

Turbulent Turtle

F-TR competitor
One problem with long barreled rifles used in F-class is finding a case that fits them well and protects them. I was looking for a soft case to replace the one that I had been using for the last few years. My current F-TR .308 has a 32 inch barrel and the PR&T stock has the buttplate extended out about a half-inch. It pushes hard on the zipper and as such, this does not protect the butt or the muzzle.

I just received a case from John Homatas at prone2success.com and I am astonished, in a very pleasing way, with this case. The workmanship is absolutely first class as are the materials used in the construction and there is some thought put into the design. For instance, the zipper only starts halfway up the buttplate when the rifle is placed in it; this way there is no pressure placed on the zipper and there is no danger of the rifle exiting the case when you unzip it or if it's not zipped properly.

There is a pocket on the side where I placed a few ECIs, and other important stuff. The carrying strap is a wide solid design that should not dig into your shoulder if you use it.

The padding is very substantial and is present at the muzzle as well as the butt, below where the zipper starts.

And what I like the most is the tag that says: Made in the USA.

I'm looking forward to the next match in 3 weeks.

Re: My new Prone2Success rifle case

That's a good thing to consider., what is the OAL of your rifle? Going to be building something similar barrel length and stock. You have me thinking if my brand new case I have sitting at home will have enough ID to case this thing..?

Re: My new Prone2Success rifle case

My rifle is currently 53 inches long. It may grow to 55 inches later this year and I wanted to make sure the case would still fit. It will.

Re: My new Prone2Success rifle case

Holy goose guns... :D LOL! Yeah I was afraid my Storm i3300 was going to be too stubby to hold a 32" barreled rifle! I suppose traveling will require double case and remove the stock from action to safely transport. Airline wise that is. hummm :o I'm a ways out from this point, but still things to consider.

Thanks for the feedback!

Re: My new Prone2Success rifle case

bayoo shooter is this bag similar to a drag bag? I am also in the market for something longer. Want to build a gun with a 32in barrel and it will probably wind up with a runner to boot so I am expecting my overall to be 57in

Re: My new Prone2Success rifle case

To be honest, I'm not sure what defines a drag bag.

I would not drag my rifle in this bag, this is just a nice, well-built, well-padded bag that really holds my very long rifle very well.

I'll try to post pictures tomorrow, bag and rifle together.

I have the green one above. Its only good for 46 in gun. My gun is 47 so its sorta being stretched to accommodate it.

A drag bag has a loop on the front end. You tie it to your foot and drag it behind you as crawl to the shooting zone. (Mostly used by snipers.)

This was a new term for me too about two months ago.

Re: My new Prone2Success rifle case

I've heard of drag bags for years now; I just don't know what qualifies as a "drag bag." My new case has a loop in front, but I would never drag the case with my rifle in it.

Re: My new Prone2Success rifle case

Have one in 63" from www.prone2success.com

Will check to see if my punt gun will fit......

Re: My new Prone2Success rifle case

I'm with you Denys, I'm not dragging my 5k dollar bench gun around in a bag/case.

Re: My new Prone2Success rifle case

Exactly. I'll carry it, thank you.

Here are some pictures of the case with my F-TR rifle snuggled up in it. Yes, the padding is that thick. Also notice the wide strap all along the underside to further protect the rifle. The zipper is fully open and it does stop 2/3 of the way up the buttplate.

Very nice looking Case...Thanks for Sharing! The photos are a nice addition to your summary

I have had one for a few years, I'm real happy with it. He used to make them for whatever length you wanted.

I recently ordered another, and it looked like 58" is the only length, but that is fine by me.

Cool... I liked John's thin travel cases - apparently others did as well, as the two I've lent out never found their way home :-\

I need some new long gun cases, as the animals did their thing on my existing ones >:( Good to see that John is making padded ones now... the only other 'good' choice I've seen around is from Hafner's.
