I just finished my 6BR project, I took my Howa 1500 Axiom and changed it to 6mm BR Norma

here are some pictures from the project.

this is what I started with.

I bought Boyds thumbhole stock, when I got it even the standard barrel was to big for it so I had to modify it quite a bit.

I had to make the forend much wider and I had to add an inch to the buttstock

then I spent a few weeks sanding and filling...

then it was time for the paintjob.

while I was working on the stock I took the action to the local gunsmith and he put a sleeve in the action to make it tighter, he put a new Krieger HV barrel with 13.5" twist and worked on the trigger, it was 56 ounces before but now it's only 14 ounces.
then he bedded the stock before I took it in for a paintjob.

and this is the finished product of very hard labour...

That is a nice looking rifle. I am thinking about doing the same thing with my Savage with the left hand stock and right hand bolt. It is very easy to use my free hand to work the bolt and load ammo and keep the shooting hand on the gun.

Turned out nice. Let us know how it shoots. I know several people that use Howa/Vanguard actions to build from and they say those actions are just as good as a Rem. model 700.

With that 13.5 twist, do yourself a favor and try some N133/N135 powder and some 65-70 grain match bullets.

Great job Dansig... You definitly get an atta boy for that project!!

See what a little ingenueity, determination and hardwork will get ya... Outstanding transformation!!

Nice! You'd never know there was a laminate under there. Well done forend, too.

went to the range last wednesday, bit windy and cold and I don't have windflags yet, but I think I did ok...

I am grouping better every week, went to the range and shot a few groups, started out with .350-.400 but after a few groups they started coming together.. ended up with a few groups in the .200-.300 and I am really happy with that considering I have no windflags and it was 10mph wind and snowing at the range.

here is one of the groups from today

Yes, that is a very nice group, especially with no wind flags. Have you tried bumping the powder up a little to see if it will help shrink the vertical?

I am using 33.5gr N-135 behind 68gr Berger, max load is 34gr and I've tried that with worse results, now the accuracy is just me and bullet seating.. Still haven't bought a trimmer and neck turner so that's next on my list, hope it will make my groups a bit smaller :)

went to the range today, groups are coming together a bit, tried the Nosler 70gr and got a pretty decent group, but mostly I got rather bad groups with the Nosler, .5"-.7" this one made my buddies really roll their eyes..

5 shot group, Nosler ballistic tip, 33.5gr N-135 COAL 57.7mm
.185" no windflags, 15mph wind and hailstorm between shots..
wish I had more groups today like this one..
