6mm br rem-6mmbr norma difference

what is the difference between the 6mm br rem, and the 6mm br norma, i have a thompson encore in a 6mmbr rem and i thought it was a 6mm br norma barrel, does anyone know which the barrel is

Man, this question just keeps coming up.

The 6mm BR Remington, Norma, and Lapua,Norma) are really the same cartridge. There are some differences in case dimensions. For example, the Norma has a longer neck than the Remington.

I'd ask Thompson if their chamber will take any of the three cases. They should know it's dimensions better than anyone. Ask them about the throat too, in case you want to shoot factory ammo.

Most of the 'newer' stuff is chambered for the 6mmBR Norma/ Lapua brass. The Remington has a little shorter neck and the Norma/Lapua case,longer) won't fit the chamber. Try a Norma/Lapua case in the chamber. If it fits, it's a newer chambering. You could always trim the cases to fit the chamber.

i called thompson and they said it is a 6mmbr rem but it has a 1.560 max OAL so it really is a BR Norma

Craig: Yes, it is confusing, and the die manufacturers, barrel makers, etc. are doing their part to continue the confusion. I'm looking at a box label for my Redding Type S Bushing style sizing die as I write this. It is labeled,' 6mm B.R. Remington'. Part# 77317 also included on label. The original Remington chambering is all but obsolete, everyone is now using the Lapua/Norma specs,, including the Europeans as verified by a 6mmBR owner in France), so it's difficult for me to understand why the Remington reference is even included-- anywhere.
