So I'm a fairly new reloader started 5-6 years ago an every year I get deeper an deeper into chasing precision loads... To start, a month ago I bought a benchrest 6.5-06 rifle at an auction, rem 700 on a bob green barrel with a neck of .290. So since the purchase of the rifle I've been gathering the needed tools to start making rounds for it, I went with the K&M neck turner kit & redding type S Match F/L die set which is "6.5mm-06-A-Square" standard necks on the 6.5-06 is .296 or .298 so I knew I'd have to turn them down. I bought a box of 25-06 hornady brass an ran it through the die an it sized it very easily, checked for length but it was 20 thou shorter that Samii spec & then turned the neck down to .289. chambered the brass in the bore an it was pretty tight locking the bolt. removed fireing pin from the bolt, turned the neck down to .287 still on the tight side so I ran it back through the die a time or two but that didn't make a difference. Do I need a neck bushing die assuming that's where it's dragging? I did cover the brass in sharpe marker but nothing I thought scored enough to make me positive that's where the issue was. I'm certain I am turning the neck far enough into the shoulder but I'm new to this so anything is possible till I get it figured out.
Maybe I should ask you this, does it make much difference if the case is "snug" vs completely loose? Thanks for any help/wisdom
