My first flyer, pretty cool!

I thought this was pretty cool. I’ve heard of the (previously thought of) myth of unexplained flyers and I always dismissed it. This is the first I can recall in 20 something years of shooting paper.

Velocity fell right in the middle of the ES, which was 11 fps, and I’m certain the CBTO was spot on because I measured every round today since I had a new seater.

Check out the shape of the bullet hole. My best guess is I hit a horse fly. They were thick today.

6 BRA with a hand pulled 80 gr bullet at 3207 fps. Flags reaching for the dirt. Luckily, I found my accuracy a with a load moving a little quicker, so I don’t have to reshoot that charge to satisfy my OCD.

Unexplained flyers are definitely not a myth. If you can certainly explain how to prevent them, please let me know! These hurt...
Only explanation I know of that makes scientific sense is
Center of Gravity is not concentric with Center of Form
Need something like a Jeunke Comparator to determine this.
------------
Think - a small air bubble in the lead core being off center
------------
A bullet spinning weird, like a non stabilized footbal, will have lower velocity than a perfectly stabilized football due to the cross section being larger and causing more drag.

Also, supposedly, if a bullet is dropped onto the ground
(Not your soft carpet, but hard concrete etc)
it is trashed internally and will likely be a flier, or at least not group well
Just food for thought if anyone buys used bullets, you have NOOOOO idea how they were handled poreviously
------------------------------------------------------------------------
and may just be the very reason somebody is selling them
because they may have dropped them and know how the react afterward.
and you have no way of knowing this if they still look pristine on the outside.

Making your own bullets may have an advantage. Like I need another process. I can see it coming though.
Even though your customs are new, they may be sorts. LOL There is a reason so many are making bullets and controlling their own destiny. There was also a reason for the Juenke machine.

What distance? Bad bullet? Off center core alot of deflection, something caused if velocity was same? If no wind, what's that leave?
At 1k. Truly hard to say...could be any of a number of things. No chrono...but do have a garmin I use now. I've had so many....they are usually a vertical high or low. Haha

I just happened to be watching your target from the pits during the world open that year the day you shot that one! I actually videoed the aftermath to show some friends just how a great group can go to pot in a hurry! (still have the video on my phone.) If I remember correctly, it was the last shot.
