My first ever club match

Well, I finally took part in a club match. F class type match at 200 yards. (Farthest the range goes) The match did unlimited sighters and then 30 recorded shots. Really fun time, and I finally see the allure of doing these. This was the first time I've ever even shot next to someone with another rifle. I've done a lot of shotgun next to others but never a rifle.

I was set up with a shot maker and an offset, and a older gentleman who was very nice helped me set everything up. Unfortunately, I didn't know exactly what an offset was and had a hard time getting it to where I needed it. After I did that, they commenced fire. I started off with 3 X's and the gentleman who was helping me stepped in and said I might want to bring it down a click because they looked high. I obliged and then shot a 9 and then moved it back to where I originally had it and was back to shooting.

The guy shooting next to me had a 308win with a muzzle break and it was extremely unpleasant. I'm surprised they actually allowed a break in a club match like this. When he shot, I could feel it in my chest. The garbage can they put next to him to stop the blast didn't do much.

Over all it was an awesome experience and I'll be doing it again. Everyone was awesome and willing to help me, and answered any questions I had. I scored a 299-26x. Not sure if that's even good or where I placed, but I saw a few fellas score sheets and some where shoot factory rifles. So I imagine my 30BR outscored em.

Thanks to everyone on this forum over the years for all the reloading tips and advise too! Thanks to my wife for taking some pictures too!IMG_20251011_093423799_HDR.jpg

That's not a rookie score. You done good!
I usually shoot 300 at 300yds, but my best is 26X. I trying for 300 30X.
Thank you, and good luck! My club only holds f class relays like this 1 time a month, and they are the only one around me that does anything like this, so I'll have to get some more practice in. What are you shooting for 300 yards?

I love to hear stories like this @Kevin1990 ! A new guy shows up, is welcomed and gets the help he needs to get in the game. It's the way it should be. Unfortunately, there are some events where the new guy isn't even noticed, let alone assisted. Sometimes the new guy is treated as an intruder to the clique. I have zero tolerance for that sort of attitude. We were all new at one point and it's the old timers' job to bring in newbies. At least that's the way I'm wired.

BTW, that's some excellent shooting! Keep it up!

Thank you!

I was worried about this as well, and when I went in I figured id just keep to myself but several members came up to me to talk and introduce themselves. I'm hooked, haha!

Just realize its lifetime commitment now on you valet....and its harder to quit
than Crack.......Oh and a lot more fun and rewarding sometimes too.

Congratulations on your first club match!

I remember my first match. 600 yard F-Open.
First time shooting a match. (Nervous)
First time shooting 600 yards.
First time shooting prone.
First time shooting (3) 20 round strings.
Yup, all at the same time!
The people there were really welcoming, friendly and helpful!

A few years later I tried the Short Range Benchrest gig.
@JEFFPPC & @Fuj were there and again, everyone was welcoming, friendly and helpful!

I have fond memories doing both, and met some really great people!!

Note, rifle and optics wise, I was ill prepared for either discipline.
Still am. Lol

Kenny, your a guy I would allow in my foxhole but you would need to come with something other than a matchlock. Seriously, few are willing to try, I respect those who do even if it's not their thing. Way to many adult men today wearing frilly panties.

Shoot!!!
I can't afford a rifle for Short Range Benchrest or F-Class.
Have you seen how much they want for a Matchlock??!!

Maybe I should sell a couple of collectibles from the safe.

I'm keeping the 1861 Harpers Ferry 3 bander, though!
Gonna be buried with that one!
