My first 6BRA arrives tomorrow

I switched over to CCI 450 primers for the next 50 fire forming loads and had 22 fail to go off. My thought is it’s a combo of case fitting a little loose in the chamber and the magnum primers being a little less sensitive. I struck each one twice. None would fire

What do you guys think?

Did you pull the bullets and be certain they had powder in them?

Not being malicious. We all do it. Myself included.

None of your factory 6BR brass should be loose in the chamber.

A 6BRA should have a 0.004" crush at the neck/shoulder junction which is common with all Ackley derivatives, this prevents the case from moving at all during firing and means we dont need to jam bullets during fire forming.

This is a new rifle, I would suggest you send it back for the builder and ask him to fix it.

I’ve had the same problem with two BRA barrels, I switched to br4s and jamming slightly, still had a few that didn’t fire, so changed to 400s and jamming .020” will see how they go only have 14 left to ff..

Did you use new factory brass? Did you size and bump the shoulders back? If your chamber is correct and your brass is correct you should have a slight resistance when closing the bolt. Firing pin fall is measured at the shroud. It is the difference between the location of the firing pin base in the cocked position and fired position. Alex Wheeler is much better qualified than I to tell you if it is adequate and how to correct it.

You might want to take the bolt apart and check to see if there is anything holding the pin from dropping all the way. If there are no little critters in there, clean it well, and get the pin drop checked and fixed if needed. Do you know for sure what your headspace is? It should be checked also. JME.WD

New brass. The only thing I did was chamfer the mouths. Some of the brass has a slight resistance and some not much at all

I’m watching Alex’s video now

CCI450's have a harder cup and can push the case forward on fire forming, I've had failure to fire before with Dasher brass and 450 primers, even with false shoulder + jam. I use Fed 205's for fireforming since they have a softer cup.

If the fall is ok, then Id say your primers are suspect.
Excellent info cheers, I’ll be checking my pin fall tonight.
The other thing I thought it may be was the chamber is set up for crush on a go gauge and I thought maybe some of the new Lapua 6br brass was actually shorter so there was no crush on the new brass??
