My barrels has Worms?

You guy's are getting as bad as Snipers Hide !!!

My theory is that being a week from Christmas, some members have been attending extended family functions. These functions, by nature typically require alcohol to, well...function... I'd wager a couple Hazy Rabbits that results would've been more concise and to-the-point had this been posted on an ordinary Tuesday afternoon

Short story long.... Guys is having a few whiskey old-fashioneds and feeling like a bunch of smarty pants

You ever shoot moly in that barrel?
Never. I was scoping new barrel to compare to previous barrel (reportedly both Hawk Hill) to learn how much the old one was worn out comparing to a new one. 6 Dasher is the caliber. Interestingly, new barrel has burrs, old one does not.

You say nothing about how the rifle shoots just about the appearance of the bore.

How does the rifle shoot? If it shoots to your standards, then why would you care how it looks?
Working load for it. I would say inconsistently so far.

Maybe 0.5 MOA at 100. Still working on the load.

Have a shootin' buddy that sold me a gun, Savage with factory barrel. Said don't look down the barrel with a scope which I don't do anyway. Said it's rough as a cob and it leaves faint lines on the brass but ejects fine. It's a shooter, trust me he said. Yes it shoots crazy good, well at least out to a mile which is far as I've shot it.

Oh, by the way it set the ELR World Record in 2019, we have no idea why it shoots so good but it makes you wonder why some that are perfect won't shoot and ones that would be scrapped if inspected shoot lights out.

I never look down a bore, if it shoots I shoot it, it'll tell me when it wants retired by the scores it posts.

Thats the point. Its not to get you in the habit of cleaning, its to smooth the burs that strip the jacket material. Thats why people clean until it quits coppering.
I was under the impression that hand lapping of premier barrels supposed to do that?

Borescope is a blessing and a course. Good looking barrels don't shoot worth a crap and carbon loaded barres shoot records. Go figure. If I follow certain cleaning company recommendations (push 5 patches soaked with miracletech through the bore ONE way only and your barrel is clean) I feel like the king with his new clothes. And then I look... Few days ago I went MEDIVAL on old barrel to get copper out, let just say that pool scale-be-gone gel has some interesting copper solving abilities.

Break in fixes the burs

And the best break-in is scrubbing the throat with Iosso or JB. Ideally, do that before firing any rounds. Otherwise, one or two cleanings with JB or Iosso a couple times in the first 100 rounds seems to work well.

After that, I recommend JB or Iosso every 200 rounds or so but only if needed. That said, the one barrel I did use Iosso every 100 rounds was still shooting 5" 10-shot groups at 1000 yds at 1000 rounds. The throat had eroded a little more than I thought it should, but the throat was nice and smooth with very little fire cracking.

I'd like to know your caliber/cartridge & the powder you use in it. Thanks, mikeinct

Yes - Yes. If it shoots to one's standards, why is there all this nonsense about how the bore looks?

I'm not gunsmith, not even close but the one I use who has been building precision rifles for 30+ years told me that most hammer forged barrels today do not need aggressive and harsh solvents to attack and remove copper. The copper from the bullets actually fills the microscopic voids of the bore and smooths it out. He claims that unless you have fire cracking in the throat area, cooper will not accumulate as most believe. The bore will establish copper equilibrium, and this will aid in shot-to-shot consistency.

The only time I ever had clean bore flyers and a problem with consistent shot to shot performance is when I began using a strong copper solvent. I conducted extensive tests trying to figure what was wrong because I was doing everything the "experts" said. Once I stopped using a strong copper solvent everything returned to normal.

I discovered this anomaly a few years ago when I had to switch solvents because the odor was bothering a sick family member. I was using Shooter's Choice which I had used for over 30 years with excellent results. Shooter's Choice does remove some copper but not a lot.

When I switched an odorless solvent, i.e., Bore Tech C4 and Cu+2, my shot consistency when sideways. The Cu+2 did a terrific job removing copper, in my case, too good. After researching this phenomenon and discussing with my rifle smith, I stop using Cu+2, just used C4 which seems function somewhat like Shooter's Choice without the odor. After that the rifles were "re-seasoned", shot to shot consistency returned to normal and the clean barrel flyers disappeared.

Incidentally, C4 does an outstanding job of removing carbon.

Look, I know this goes against all the expert's advice, but this is what I experienced and quite honestly, I was totally surprised. For those that are interested, take a look at gunblue490's videos addressing solvents and cleaning. He explains this in technical terms. He has many years of experience and professional training.
