Here is my ? Maybe a stupid ? but.

What caliber would you choose to shoot bench at 200 yds ?

Requirements are
low recoil
min turn neck maybe a couple thou to cleanup.
has to shoot on the average days with no flags.
easy to tune
tube and twist #
at a reasonable build and reload price.

or is this a can of worms? Thanks

The only thing "stupid" about your question is the part about flags.
Flags should ALWAYS be used. No caliber/gun or cartridge can be expected to perform near it's accuracy potential without them. The wind WILL move them ALL. Flags are a must for accuracy shooting.
While way less than ideal, surveyor tape is much better than nothing, and will at least tell you when NOT to pull the trigger.--Mike

Yes thanks for the reply.

The thing is at a couple of the clubs we shoot at = they do not use flags.

I shoot a 6ppc at 1 of the clubs where they do use the flags.

thanks again.

6ppc or 6br no turn neck. I would lean a little more with the 6br since I just seen what Lapua 6ppc brass is going for.

I guess no big secrets here.

Like a brx or AI ?

Back to the good ol tried and true.

thanks

For a club shoot that could be group or score, or combination thereof, I would recommend 30BR. We have found that this round is very, very close to 6 PPC in pure accuracy and is easier to tune, and possibly more suited for preloading. Club record at our club was set with 30BR, preloaded. Barrel life is outstanding.

Now if you want to compete in registered BR matches, 6 PPC is the round to beat. But for club-level accuracy shoots (no moving backers), I think you'd be happy with 30 BR. Load it up with good bullets (such as BIBs) and H4198, fed match primers.

It does have more recoil than a 6PPC but you could always fit a muzzle brake if your clube rules allow.

If you want to shoot 600 yards as well, consider 6mmBR or 6mmBR improveds.
