My 3D printed receiver

Once the builder of a non serialized gun dies, that firearm becomes a serious problem, to whomever may have it in their possession.
These may be classed differently but I have several 22 RF rifles from the 20-50's that have no Ser # from manufacturers

that would be before the 1968 gunlaw act they do not fall into this, that being said I am sure if you go to sell it will become interesting..

that's not exactly correct somewhere in the mid 90's the atf required all actions mfg'd must have serial #and city and state where mfg'd I built a few in that era and called about it being they were for my own use wanted to know how or where to register. there was not a good simple answer as they only keep records if you are a manufacturer magic number under 50 per year and that is only for taxes. so I was told yes you need a serial # and markings as to where made but no where to register. a serial # is a pretty good idea anyway if you are ever stopped on the way to a match or range they can get kind of funny about a firearm with no serial # and you might have a very bad day...George

Odd all those 80% receivers do not have your city and state in them. I know they do not have mine. It is a recommendation to have a serial number but not required.

Calling them is the easiest way to get wrong info. The batfe or whatever they want to be called this week employees many sjw.

Most doing it fail to accept that they are not immortal. Once the builder of a non serialized gun dies, that firearm becomes a serious problem, to whomever may have it in their possession. The whole concept is rather silly as the numbers on my firearms cause me no grief.

I also put a random number on mine. It only becomes an issue if you live in a state where it matters. Here in ND they just change hands.

I will admit that firearms are cool when they have no markings not even caliber.

and they are not a receiver until finished so yes you would need to.being they are enforcing the laws where would you go? I guess you can totally ignore anything they say lets see how that works for you.

It matters anywhere federal laws apply, that's just about everywhere. The serial number loophole is a federal law, not a state law.

USA Only.................
27 CFR 478.92 - How must licensed manufacturers and licensed importers identify firearms, armor piercing ammunition, and large capacity ammunition feeding devices?

You don't need a license to manufacturer a firearm for your personal use. You may not transfer that firearm.* And tax stamps that maybe necessary must be acquired first. All non sporting semi auto rifles and shotguns must use less than 10 imported parts.

Oh, and I almost forgot... it is illegal to manufacture a firearm that can't be detected by x-ray, or a metal detector.

Will you catch a ration of poop from LE or range police ? Maybe, but unless you're a prohibited person, You're not violating federal law.

* There seems to a small loophole that allows a company to manufacture one or two firearms and sell them without a license, but one agent's judgement of when you're in the business of distribution and sale maybe different than another's, so if I were going to sell, I would proceed with caution.

You need to look up the laws. I am not giving any legal advice but you can sell a firearm you made your self.

You're sure about that?
Maybe looking up the law is good advice. You can only build a firearm for your own use and not serial number it. You cannot sell it, nor can anyone other than you possess it. If you are building guns such as this and selling them, you are playing with fire. Once you have done the 20% you have manufactured a restricted part.

Does an individual need a license to make a firearm for personal use?

No, a license is not required to make a firearm solely for personal use. However, a license is required to manufacture firearms for sale or distribution. The law prohibits a person from assembling a non–sporting semiautomatic rifle or shotgun from 10 or more imported parts, as well as firearms that cannot be detected by metal detectors or x–ray machines. In addition, the making of an NFA firearm requires a tax payment and advance approval by ATF.

No you can not if you sell then you must pay excise tax and must be serialized...I have only made 20 or so actions from scratch and researched this deeply.

Nice invite, thanks. You have a beautiful country! BUT........your taxes are a bit high and so are your housing costs. We looked at a little one bedroom and the asking price was way higher than here in the states!

I used to run a division of TNT and spent a lot of time in New Zealand. Then when I was with IKEA headquarters I was back again regularly. Enjoyed ever visit. Especially sailing on Wednesday afternoons on the Bay of 1,000 Sails, Auckland Harbor and pubbing in Christ Church. Just too far to get to see my grand daughter regularly or I would consider moving there.
