I used to run a division of TNT and spent a lot of time in New Zealand. Then when I was with IKEA headquarters I was back again regularly. Enjoyed ever visit. Especially sailing on Wednesday afternoons on the Bay of 1,000 Sails, Auckland Harbor and pubbing in Christ Church. Just too far to get to see my grand daughter regularly or I would consider moving there.

If you are building with intent to sell then you need a license. If you build and then at some point you do not want it you can sell. You are not the only one who has a fully equipped machine shop.

so let me get this right, you can make a firearm as long as you don't intend to sell it. but then if you decide to sell it its alright. did you really write that. look up 27 cfr 479.102 atf codes reads like this " you as a manufacturer,importer OR MAKER OF FIREARM must legibly identify the firearm as follows"..... I fail to see the relevance of a fully equipped machine shop trying to figure that one out.....

yes I know Marcos is in New Zealand we have done business before, he had contacted me about this project with a few questions at its inception. Just trying to sift the bad information out that is on here.

Larry, I made a few of my own to try a few design changes for ignition, also can't seem to find any that do not require work. I would not know the law because I am a gage maker I let my lawyer handle that stuff, its what he gets paid to do. I do make a few things just never enough time for all the projects .

I wouldn't want to make something that could provide a vacation behind bars . Or end up in court . But that is me. Larry

that's why you look into laws before proceeding. I'm a little old for that type of vacation also its not all that difficult you just need to find out what they expect, believe me its better to be sure. an off story. I'm on my way to a match running late trooper stops me all the normal stuff asks about any guns in vehicle. I say yes he wants to inspect, no problem he takes numbers and mfg. info and runs to see if they are stolen. all was fine I had made receivers. then he wants to talk about shooting and b.s. now just think if they were not marked or serialized that would have been a bad day. p.s. didn't even get a ticket he was pretty good about it

Jammer, are you talking about Brazil? Animals with 50 BMG shooting you from the favelas to steal your 50 bucks? hahaha No, no. here we don't have even snakes. Lots of animals have been introduced here some time ago, some for hunting, some have scaped from farms and are considered wild now. The most dangerous one is the kiwi I can say straight out: unfortunately, I was born in Brazil but I have fixed that error. Great country I live in now! Problem is here in Auckland a small beaten up house costs NZ$ 1,000,000 average.
Some may be asking why I printed this receiver. Little history: tried different ways to bring a Stiller 2500x in and the final price to my door was be NZ$ 3000. Designing and making one would be way way way cheaper, but I felt nobody here could machine the
internal abutments with precision and printing was still a little cheaper and I had the chance to put in it all details I wanted like M4 threads, internal cam and fillets.
hey George, still have your dies. I don't have a way right now to use them cos I live in an apartment and got no room for that. I will keep them though for the future.
Just sent the receiver out to be aged to 40 RC.

Guys, You need to pay attention to George. He has been around the block at least 2 times. He didn't fall off the turnip truck going around the block. He is not a klutz blacksmith gunplumber. I wouldn't argue with George, I would listen very carefully to him.

About 14 years ago a mold shop I was working in had a "near net shape" core block printed out in stainless steel for testing. After machining to final shape it looked ok but had small pin hole voids over 30% of the surface. They really showed up after final polishing. I would be curious to see the final finish after polish to see if this has been solved.

yes, I will post all steps. Just sent out to be heat treated and I can make an youtube short video when I am ready to shoot it. Curious to see if it has porosity as well. I lightly sanded it and it didn't show any sign of voids. Who knows.
Also, the stupid here inserted screws in all threaded holes, to see if they were ok, and they were, except for one of them. Short history: got stuck, I broke it inside and luckily a buddy of mine removed it.
I think it badly galled.

Good Point. I am sure the 40X RIMFIRE should be fine however. One way to find out as they say.... cant wait to see how it turns out for him. I am pretty excited about his project.

very good point, BTW. i don't believe what companies state about tensile and yield strength stuff of printed parts. surely, i will shoot lots of rounds with a string attached to the trigger and it also doesn't mean i will be safe later on. an idea is to send the action out after shooting to test for cracks or anything or you guys can give me an new suggestion?!

There is also another local company in Tauranga making 3D printed sintered titanium supressors. These are stronger than machined titanium, and can handle rapid fire to the point where they are glowing red hot without failure, so the question of the strength of 3D printed components is only being asked by the uninformed!
