My 1st ladder also for 6BRX

OK did a ladder test today.. 1st time really as I normally do ocw at 200 or 300m..
OK very impressed with results
These where shot in 3 sperate groups starting lowest charge to highest then I'd move to right and go lowest to highest again at 400m in some gusty side on conditions with a little bit of mirage at times over about a 45min window..
Powder 2208/varget and 107gr Smk with CCI 450s
1 and 2 loads had great vert but is a bit on slower side of things (maybe)
Now shots 3, 4 and 5 where also great (left hand side group was 0.98 of an inch vert) but other 2 where smoking for 400m
6 and 7 just being out there even though avg speed were nearly identical.
What are people thoughts

While the 1st string likely had you scratching your head, the 2nd and 3rd string where obvious, that both correlate with the 1st string well enough to the obvious node (3,4,5). The thing I like about ladder testing the most is how the wind (horizontal dispersion) has little effect on the assessment. Vertical dispersion is all I assess, and the vertical placement between the increments.

Good shooting....

Gives you a good starting point for powder charge, I’d like to do some more refined tuning around the obvious powder charges with 5 shot groups to give me some confidence it will hold and obviously a seating test.. Shots 1,2 and 7 had good ES compared to 3,4 and 5.. Good luck you’ve got some stiff competition coming up you’ll need your A game..;)

Was noticing that the velocity stayed the same on 1&2 then on the other charges 3-7 they went up a little as you shot each charge. Like they say ,let the target do the talking. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah will be trying the low one also.. I will use 32.4gr and do a seating test then fine tune loads 1/2 and 3,4 and 5 and see what works I think..
As long as it beats Rusty I'm happy

I’m a firm believer in letting the target do the talking, but if I’ve got an ES of 33 over 3 shots which 32.4 does I’ll want to investigate a little more..JMHO.

Shoot, loads 3-7 on velocity look good to me. I like what I see there.

Won’t know till more testing is done.. Shots 1 and 2 were the only ones that repeated excellent elevation in all 3, they also have single digit ES as a bonus.. Yes the window is smaller and velocity slower but still worth having another look at with 5 shot groups.

Edit-After all the ladder test is all about elevation dispersion differences and to a lesser extent speed and ES.

You guys crack me up!:D

A second way to have another look is to color three Bullets of each charge and shoot them at the same POA in a round robin while not changing your set up.

A third world be (non round robin) at individual dots in a vertical target format therefore only adjustment is elevation.
Decreased tracking variables is a plus.

Have fun over there y’all
