Muzzle Threading Button Barrel

Have a 284W project with Broughton barrel that I want to put a brake on with a 5/8x24 thread.
Will this disturb the rifling at the muzzle and adversely effect accuracy?

I had my rem700 threaded and brake added. It did not impact rifling at all. It did change POI and you will probably have sight in to new POI. Chrony showed no change in velocity.

Hope that helps.

I have had at 5 Broughtons with muzzle brakes and all of them have shot well. These were all fairly heavy barrels but I don't think it would make that much of a difference. Matt

The threading shouldn't hurt the barrel or accuracy. The brake wont also. The reason for the point of impact change I think is because of threads not being cut off the bore. If it is threaded off the barrel not the bore you will have more pressure on one side of the bullet then the other.

I believe the weight of the brake changed the harmonics like a tuner does. That is what changed the point of impact. Matt

I know the first break I had put on the 5'' point of impact at 200 yard was because if instillation. I took it to another gun smith. He used a range rod it had very little clearance on one side and a tooth pic would fit on the other side. He cut and re thread off the bore. My 5'' went to 1/2 '' 90 Degrees from the tight side.
