Ray,
The only two guns I've shot with brakes that gave me or the people nearby headaches were a) a .50 cal w/ a fish-gill brake - it was like being hit in both temples at the same time with a ball peen hammer and b) some gawd-awful comp/muzzle break for a .223 AR-15 that was bad enough my shooting partner threatened to never shoot with me again, and *I* had a migraine after 50rds of 55gr bullets with that dang thing. No exaggeration. I've been at matches where they required braked shooters to provide blast mats and/or partitions to put up between them and adjacent shooters due to the debris issues. I've also seen those guns (.338LM) blow over a Kalispel 2-gun case unless it was held upright to shield nearby shooters.
Probably the best solution I've seen yet is to just stick the braked shooters down at one end aka 'the ghetto' and let them abuse/police one another. Still doesn't get around the competitive advantage issues, though.
