Muzzle brakes and accuracy for 6.5 Creedmoor

The holes in the top are to tune the amount and direction of muzzle jump. Not the load.

ETA a video explaining it by Jered the owner of APA. Shows you you use the top holes to tune the jump and direction. Not load tuning. They work well with it. I have used both the Gen 3 Little and Fat Bastards on match rifles.

I thought about that when I bought the gen 2. The Ace does the same thing but it seemed like a waste of time to me. I would rather have the brake centered. All rifles do that but it does not bother me. I've been thinking about how people look at what it takes to be a great shot. If you compete, then I would do everything I could to win. So if a smaller exit hole helped even just a little, I would now find a brake that was for my caliber only. Same as neck turning my brass, if it helped just a little, I would and do neck turn some of my brass. If I competed I would turn it all. You guys sort your bullets and primers and brass. At what point do people compromise in their effort to be the best they can? I guess that is why I"m hung up on this muzzle brake thing and I started this forum. When I saw the difference in my groups at 500 yards, then 800 and 1000, I was convinced I was on to some thing I was missing in my approach to be the best shot I could be. For me, what ever it takes to do it. If it dose not matter, then that's a choice we all make on every thing we do.

The brake is centered when installed. The holes in the top allow gas to blow out and push down so you can stay in targets with less muzzle rise. You can play with the screws and get it to help keep it where you want it. On my 6.5 Creed I have the back two in the right side in and on my 6 Creed all the holes are open.

I shoot PRS matches and no neck turning or bullet sorting and I have won matches with factory ammo. It’s not like F Class or Benchrest. You get more by practicing shooting from the different props and positions you may see in matches.

If you are happy with your results then that’s great and all that matters.

I understand, I was talking about the Ace brake. You had to turn the brake in the direction you were being pushed from in order to push you back. The whole idea seemed wrong to have the brake not centered. I think the holes in the top are a good idea to help control muzzle rise. PRS matches, well that's different. That's more of a sport than extreme accuracy. I see where you are coming from now. I also see why some things are not as important to you as to me. So good luck with your shooting. I have nothing but respect for what you are doing. Wish I could join you but I'm about 25 or 30 years to late for all that action, I keep forgetting how old I am. Maybe 50 0r 60 years ago, before I went into the military.
