Muzzle brake question

MBM 3 and 4 port beasts are what I typically have. They're some of the best at reducing recoil. I can spot shots on 25x with my 223/6 Creed/7-300 Win Mag from 100 yards all the way out.

Just bought an APA little bastard for a 6 BRA and it seems to do very well also.

A friend turned me on to Ross Brakes--last one I got was $49 so if they have gone up so what? very good unit --they will taper them at no charge to match your barrel they also offer whatever thread you need same price--they are the best buy out there--quality--great service--look em up--bet you will like one and I just can't imagine that all the high $$ gimmicks are worth it
FWIW it took about 5 minutes with a piece of flat glass and sand paper to index mine--no smith needed--just go in a figure 8 on the paper

Looks good too.
Had it on a 6 Creed

The Area 419 hellfire works also. Just doesn't look as good on the end.

Those look very similar to the old MBM brakes, which ironically are also made in ID.

I have several of Ross' brakes on XP-100's and they work great, the top ports really help on muzzle flip. I have one that I didn't have tapered for a Remage install, with a thin jam nut you can index it quickly.

What has everyone found to be the most effective muzzle brake? I’ve tried the Apa fat bastard. Is there anything better? Just having trouble spotting shots at 400 past that it works good
The time of flight is so short inside of 400 yards that any rifle movement will make shots tough to spot. A brake can only do so much and doesnt affect the primary recoil pulse (F=MA) anyway. Another, and perhaps more fruitful solution, would be to add weight to the rifle. A few pounds in the right location will help a lot if its an option for you.

Have you given any thought to using a suppressor instead of a brake?

Depending on your actual setup muzzle brakes for recoil reduction is generally going to give you the most reduction in recoil but personally I friggen hate shooting rifles with a brake because they are so damn loud.

Even with the 130 class bullets a 25CM doesn't have a great deal of recoil and you'd be surprised how well a good suppressor calms things down not to mention makes shooting so much more enjoyable because there is sooooooo much less BANG. I find that I nearly always shoot better shooting suppressed then I do with either a bare rifle or one with a muzzle brake. Suppressors certainly aren't magic or perfect and they do add inches to the overall setup but I'd bet once you start shooting suppressed you'll quickly find it's a lot less of an annoyance then you originally may have thought.

If you are using a fat bastard with a 25 creed and can’t spot shots at 400 then you need to work on your mechanics behind the rifle. The fat bastard is very good at recoil reduction and with the ports on the top keep it flat. Keep using it and work on how you are behind the rifle. Are you shooting prone? Bench? Off props?

Especially to the folks that are next to you if you are at a range or in a group hunt…
No comps that I know of allow muzzle breaks on the mound due to the excess muzzle blast that they cause.

Love their brakes

There are many comps who allow their use. PRS, NRL, NRL Hunter and others.

It does depend on the club and where you live, saying that my local does allow them in Hunter but with baffle/barriers between shooters. All shooting competion off the mound such as F Open, TR, ect. do not generally and I know only of one club in my state that allows them and again with a barrier between shooters.

Never found a club or range in the US that would not allow brakes for the matches I mentioned. Those stationary matches I know don’t.
