Muzzle brake 284 Shehane

Any experience with harrells muzzle brakes on the 284 Shehane with a 1.25” barrel? Looking for one for 1k Benchrest,or any other brands that do as advertised....

I have a few braked 284's. I have use the APA Little Bastard and MBM (Muzzle Brakes and More) Beast. The MBM works as good or better than the APA in my experience and doesn't have quite as much rearward blast so it doesn't blow the hat off the guy beside you! LOL

Thread hijack:

How much does a 284 need a brake?

Mine is going to be pretty heavy, I was hoping that would make recoil manageable.

Are you using a brake so the scope doesn't move off target or just to help your shoulder?

I got muzzle threads just in case but I don't want to use them.

They don't from my experience. I'm not a weenie about recoil, on my braked rifles it's for seeing impacts and fast follow up shots. My .300 WM doesn't have brake on it and I only shoot it in prone position with a .208 bullet, weighs 12-13 pounds.

Brakes make them more pleasant to shoot. I had a tuner brake on one, it worked as advised. The one on my 7 SAUM works great. It makes a 16.5 LG a pleasure to shoot. (sorry I don't know the brand)

One of my 284s is for hunting and weighs 8.5 lbs. The other is prone LR match rifle that weighs around 16 lbs. I sometimes hunt without the brake (to save my ears) but ironically it never comes off my LR match rifle. The recoil is manageable, especially in the heaver rifle. The benefit for me is that I can spot impacts and get quicker follow-up shots with the brake.

Thanks.

I'm going to try it without and add a brake if I ever need to shoot fast.

The ELR stuff I want to do has very long flight times so I think I'll have a chance to get back on target before it hits/misses.
