MTR Rebuild Complete!

Got the barrel today while I was at the range shooing my score with my @1. When I got the notice that the barrel was here I couldn’t wait to get home and PLAY

And Play I DID!

Took the necessary measurements and added the “Included shims from Lilja” to the barrel for the correct headspace of .043” torked the barrel screws down to start with at 35ips and set the action screw tork to 20ips (which is where she liked it) for the 1st go around.

Mounted the scope in the lapped rings and bore sited it in and its ready to go if tomorrows weather is accommodating.

I was lucky yesterday as well in that I found 2 bricks of Lapua Center-X @ Whidden so that will be here tomorrow as well for testing!

Really excited to give this a go and see what it will do.

After the setup I decided to run a patch down with some Rimfire cleaner just to clean the barrel and then decided to run my bore scope down it.

HOLY BAJIMINI CRICKETS! I couldn’t believe how that bore looked in comparison to my other 2 barrels from CZ! Absolutely NIGHT & DAY difference! I’ll include those barrel pix for those that are interested in it!

Looking at the before and after I have to believe that this gun won’t shoot better then the original MTR barrel!

Time will tell!

I recently bought the same. The difference between the Varmint and American stock as far as sheen is night and day. What did you do to your stock to get it to shine?

I too will be starting from scratch and have yet to shoot it. Time will tell if I go to a Lilja. I'm guessing I will. Good looking setup!

I have a Lilja on one of mine. Quality barrel held to tight tolerances, and properly hand lapped. Not only do they shoot well they resist fouling and carbon ring buildup because of the mirror finish they provide. I clean the carbon ring on the L3i barrel twice as often as the Lilja. Looks great, I'm sure it will shoot great too!

Thanks Mike,
I put 14 coats of MinWax Polyurethane on it with 600-1500 grit wet and dry sanding in between coats.

I’ve done some preliminary testing and I can tell you I’m very happy with the Lilja barrel! I plan to tweak my setup so hopefully it will only get better. I’ll keep you up to date as things progress!

Agreed 100%! Didn’t take much to clean and very little carbon build up in the chamber!

That rifle looks balanced visually to my eye. Much more so than the factory 20" barrel does to me. I've had a couple centerfire Lilja barrels and was very pleased with them. The bore in yours looks great! 10's & X's!!
