Mtm cleaning rod case....

MTM is now making a storage case for our expensive cleaning rods.. Holds 4 rods , patches and jags , rods up to 47 inches long also... Can find them at Amazon... Just thought it was a neat idea for people who haul these things around..

Cool idea. I know when i was hanging around with some local BR guys they would use 1/2" copper pipe with caps on the end to house their cleaning rods. The guy was a plumber so it was all kinds of a cool design

ive used a piece of 2" pvc pipe with threaded plugs in it but i saw that mtm rod box. looks like a better way to fo.

They come in tubes if you pay the extra but I thought wow they finally make a product for the guys who spend money on shooting...

IMO MTM missed the boat on the length. A common rod length for many competition rifles is 44".....when you add the handle length and the jag or brush you end up with 50" and I won't remove the brush/jag every use just to store them. As said, it is so simple to make your own, and with the length issue.....I believe they have lost a substantial number of potential customers.

The best cleaning rod cases I've ever seen are sold by Sinclair Int,l. Aluminum construction, holds rods securely, and has provision to bolt two together. Brush on one, jag on the other rod to avoid changing tips all the time when cleaning. I only use Dewey rods, and this case holds them without rattle too. So far with almost 20 years of use, it's still going strong.

For a while I put my rods into my foam lined gun cases, and soon found discoloration on the foam from residual cleaning solvents, plus the case then smelled like Shooters Choice.....yuk!

I also have a couple of cases made from PVC pipe, but the Sinclair unit is much, much better and looks like it was designed for such use, and not an irrigation system.;)

You can buy plastic cases with hangable top caps, directly from Dewey for $2.00 each. I have a set of those if I am going to take a rod or rods with me when I am not using a hard case with one or more installed. You can get them extra long and cut them to allow you rod to fit with a jag on them. Buy some other stuff with them as the shipping is a flat $10.00.

For years we used 1/2" pvc pipe and made it in a trombone format so we could carry one rod for a jag and one for a brush. Cut to fit, comes in 10' lengths. The ferrule on the Dewey rods fits the inside dia. with a mild press fit. Sealed and clean could make as many "trombones" as needed and zip together.

I carry mine in my gun case. I keep everything I need for each gun in their cases. That way I don't have to think about what I need to take. The bag always has the ammo and rest in it, but everything else is in the rifle case.
