MT to Vermont with pistol.

Can I travel through New York with my handgun?

It is unlawful for any person to carry, possess or transport a handgun in or through the state unless he has a valid New York license.Mar 10, 2022

Does Vermont require a pistol permit?

Vermont does not issue Permit/Licenses to Carry a Concealed firearm. Vermont does allow anyone who can legally possess a firearm to carry it concealed without a permit of any kind.Mar 10, 2022

I know your concern is the traveling, however it looks once she gets there it looks pretty straight forward.

I would like to repeat my warning about a pistol and Canada. NO WAY.
Canada is neither the country you would expect nor anything like the country it was.

Ship the pistol ahead to an FFL and carry a lot of pepper spray, the good stuff that shoots a distance. Canada's chinavirus regs are as bad as the gun laws. IIRC, there are 1500 firearms now banned there. Again, IIRC, guys coming back from hunting in Africa had to quarantine in a federal or approved facility for two weeks at their own expense costing a couple thousand dollars. Unfortunately the dictator got approved to stay in power until 2025.

Then we’ll worry about it in my opinion
There's a case in NJ of a PA woman stopped for a routine traffic stop with a legal PA pistol permit.
This is a total nightmare:
"A Philadelphia mother of two who obtained the necessary permits to carry a gun in Pennsylvania and was arrested in New Jersey for unlawful possession of a weapon is now facing three years in prison."
Shaneen Allen, 27, obtained a license-to-carry permit and purchased a .380 Bersa Thunder handgun after she was robbed in a Philadelphia alley in July 2013
During a trip to Atlantic City last October, Allen was arrested following a routine traffic stop and was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of hollow-point bullets. Allen told Philly.com she told the police officer she had a firearm in her purse and a carry license for it.

I believe this is a couple of years old but it's a real red flag for me. Not only the weapons charge BUT they added "with hollow point bullets". (the horror!!)

I don't know the outcome but who on earth needs this problem.

You guys are making me angry! I want her to have her pistol in possession for safety. It’s no good in the trunk unloaded !! I hope I can talk her out of this journey ! She don’t know what she”s getting into traveling over there !!
Dude put your foot down LOL

Some of the Mass guys could verify it but IIRC, years ago there were billboards on the interstates warning people about handguns and the associated jail time for breaking the law. Us east coast guys are used to stupid politicians and assaultson the 2nd Amendment, for others it's a total culture shock.

New Jersey might as well be called the Gestapo state. A teacher friend of mine's buddy was charged with illegal possession of a handgun, an antique flintlock, because it wasn't registered. A close friend of mine was stopped on I95 coming from Florida. He had a concealed carry permit but left his pistol in Florida. The state police practically stripped his car looking for it before letting him go. Even taking a more southerly route, I70 and then hooking back north, NY and/or NJ are unavoidable.

Thank- you all for the input. I'm not thrilled about her driving over there. Couldn't talk her out of it. She will drive thru some jungles getting there. We live in a small town and she has not been in the big cities. She will be in a small rural area in northern Vermont for her job. Looks like a decent town, it just the ride getting there. Flying would be better, but needs a rig when she gets there. Probably only be 3 months on that job. Her dog goes with her everywhere too so its going to be along journey.
Cant you just go with her and fly back.
With the price of gas maybe she can fly and rent a vehicle there?
d a vehicle

Some of these state troopers give cops everywhere a bad rap.

Then you rule out Illinois, New York, and Canada. In these states with it up front, she is taking a big chance. Trying to get through Canada with one - NOT priceless.

Fly her there, and either drive her car for her, have her car shipped there, or short term lease one like stated above.

I don't think I would want my daughter driving that far alone just for potential mechanical issues.

She can ship it to herself. She cannot send it to an ffl and get it unless she is a resident of that state. The trip is whats the problem not once she gets there. Tell her to travel on down to arkansas. A friend of mine is a traveling nurse and is working in rogers/springdale/fayetteville area and is making more than she did in houston or new york city. She can bring her gun right on down here up on the dash. I dont know how you northern- coastal- new england guys get along each day with so many freedoms taken away.

That’s exactly why I moved to Texas! Freedom. I had a local police officer over for a visit. We started talking guns and I started showing him my collection. At the end, he looked at me and said “That’s it? You’re a little lite for Texas.”
The Sheriff has been quoted several times saying he will not enforce any anti 2nd amendment laws.

If she were my daughter, I’d climb in the front seat with a map of the US and refuse to move. You’re in a test of wills. I bet you raised her to be a tough independent self reliant lady!
Now you have to out think her! Good luck!

I just dont see how a local entity can override the federal law that says i can bear arms. Its in the bill of rights. I guess thats why i refuse to be a victim
