MT to Vermont with pistol.

How about traveling thru Canada with a shotgun? Maybe she is going hunting in VT?
But then there is still the pup. Lord knows one doesn't want to be caught with a dog that has no papers.

So my daughter is a traveling nurse going from MT to work in Vermont. Her shortest route takes her into Canada some where in Michigan. She is young , single, attractive and carries a pistol, but don't know if there is any way she can take it across the border. She don't want to leave it behind, and I don't want her to either. Any options to take here side arm, or can she even take it across the states with just a MT conceal permit. ? Help. !!
Ive hoped youve talked her out of going to Canada with a handgun. The time i went up there they removed evrything from my truck to search it. I have no idea what they were searching for but they didnt find anything. they asked me if i had a handgun permit even though i didnt have any guns with me. they took my cell phone. you have no
US “rights” at the border- they can do what they want to you. chances are probably 90 % at least she wont make it through if she trys it.

We’re you wearing a MAGA hat? That would do it!

NOPE, google the canadian customs or bringing a shotgun into canada and the info is all there for you to read and weep over. Call Canada Customs and ask the questions you are just getting speculative answers to here. Trying to just show up at a border crossing to canada and expecting to waltz into the country uninhibited is just unrealistic. Yes, you do need papers to bring a dog into Canada.

As a gunsmith I can ship a weapon back to the individual after repair. I have had customers move and the firearm shipped to the new address. I would leave it with a smith for "cleaning" and then have it shipped to her VT address if she is dead set on going through Canada. Going through Canada with it is asking for major legal fees followed by jail time.
Or just stay out of Canada.

GO WITH HER!! Make it a father/daughter bonding trip and fly back. It shouldn’t take more than 2 long days with 2 drivers. Small town girl out on her own? Anything can happen on the road these days.
I just got back to Delaware. My son gave ME a stern talking to about being careful driving around town. It seems car jacking has become very common here in Joe’s hometown.
Welcome back, the jacks are going on in LSD they just don`t make the news because a few people fought back. Can`t have that on the news. Enjoy your stay but watch your six. Jeff

Yup! These stupid gun laws make us SO much safer. I never heard of any carjackings in Kerrville, while I’ve lived there. Too dangerous for the criminal element!

Canada! Gas is expensive and they don't have Marlboro's. And that potato/cheese/gravy thing is disgusting.

When I drove across a couple of years ago east to west, I was advised to drive back into the states rather than cross the north side of the lakes. Too many car jackings and a lack of gas stations.

Hollow point ammo band is just one of the many reasons why so many people move south when they retire.

I worked LE in NY (not City). you can't legally carry in NY on another stae's permit. But you can travel thru. Follow earlier advice regading cased, unloaded, separate ammo from gun, keep in trunk. If, by some strange reason you want to go to NY to shoot a handgu, you need papers from the registered shoot detailing where, when, how and your registration for it. (Cause everyone knows that massive gunfights take place at registered matches...):rolleyes::rolleyes:
