Most Popular Rifle Category

22 LR sells the most ammo...it works for everything but big game ...mostly...and in an enormous variety of firearms. But the .223/ 5.56 has been most popular centerfire rifle in especially AR15 rifles/ pistols and boltguns...it also is super versatile, and some hunt deer with it. If ya don't own a good 223/ 5.56 sell your winter clothes and obtain one.
And if I could only have one it would be an AR-15...it has put 20 shots in a 20 inch circle in 20 seconds, at 1000yds. No other rifle or caliber to date, has done so...Jeff Cooper made the challenge, though it couldn't be done...an AR 15 rifle was built and met that challenge in 3 months.

I like Fujs idea of a copy of the winning Tackdriver rifle. But I think it's a bad idea as is any other purpose built rifle. I think every state has squirrels and .22 shells seem to be available again. How about a lightweight state of the art .22 hunting rifle in a premium walnut stock. Adults and kids both could enjoy it.

IMO the logical approach to deciding on what type of rifle to raffle would be to ask yourself - what is the most popular type of hunting in your area.
If it isn't big game hunting then stay with smaller calibers. If you live in PD country chances are a 223 would draw interest, if it is ground squirrel or tree squirrel hunting then a good 22 LR.

Ar-15's while popular also carry a lot of baggage with them because of the inevitable "assault rifle" stigma that is associated with them so I would not go there - it may create more bad press for you than good.

As far as a specialized target type rifle for long range events or benchrest will not draw as much interest because most folks really don't have that much interest in competing in those events, and also it requires a lot of specialized equipment and time so most folks are not going to buy a ticket for a rifle for something like that.

I would suggest something along the lines of a CZ 457 Sporter or a Ruger 10/22 DeLuxe. They are both very popular, and everyone likes a good looking, inexpensive to shoot 22 LR. I suspect that one of those would maximize interest and give the raffle the greatest profit.

Think about waiting for over a year for a scarbrough stock and how much he would sink into that plus a paint job, bat action, barrel, etc. there may not be any money left over to donate. But a nice vudoo sporter could be had quickly, and a bergara 22 sporter would make even more money

Hey Dusty, how about a top tuned Springer. Lots of good accurate shooting on the cheap, no reloading, and no cleaning.

Everyone (almost) would be interested in a super accurate light weight varmint rifle.
No odd ball sub calibers, that would eliminate some guys being interested. Stuff like the 222, 223, 22-250, 243, etc would be popular. Ymmv

Any kind of raffle, I'm told is online gambling.

Do you have any legal ideas on a fundraiser?

Unless someone knows how to make this a fundraiser many can participate in, we may have to go back to the original "Pay it Forward ".

You could always do up something popular and put it on GunBroker. Maybe not as wholesome and heartwarming as a raffle, but it'd be legal and more than likely have a larger pool of participants. Otherwise, have 100 members send $10, $25, or whatever to a designated (trusted) member on the DL and have them draw a winner
