Most fragile .224 varmint bullet

In my opinion the most explosive bullet I have shot is the Hornady 35gr, 22cal. I used this in a Hornet and it was extreamly explsive even at the low velocity of the hornet! On many occasions it exploded on a twig! The 50 grain VMAX is also explosive out of my 22-250.

35 grain V Max works for me . This is from a Hornet, would probably work OK in a .223….

Sierra 40 gr “hornet” bullet fired out of my 22-250 12 twist. So fragile that I don’t think they make it 20 feet past the muzzle.
That same bullet fired from my Winchester 43 does just fine.

I use 40gr Vmax in both 223 and 22-250. They will tear a Pdog apart.
Run 26.3gr Tac in 223 right at about 3520+/- Fps
35gr N135 in 22-250s, 3930ish +- Fps

I guess it would depend on the twist of the 223. I personally use James Calhoun double hallow points 52 gr in a 1&8 twist 223

Whats the most explosive bullet you have found for the .223? 40 grains or less for my specific needs. Top velocity powder helpful as well,,,,thanks
Is your goal dramatic hits or reduction of ricochet potential? Where you hit what you are shooting at also plays a role. If you want the dogs to fly high in the air, you have to shoot low on them. I prefer to hit the vitals to quickly end their life. I've started using my 17 HMR mostly the last few years. This dog was giving me the eyeball over the top of the mound. This is what that little bullet did to wreck his day.

I'd go with fast twist 6 or 7 twist , 40 gr bullets, highest velocity powder available....get the bullet RPM up high...where they come apart in mid air..
Back off velocity to keep them intact inside 80 to 100 yds. Where you shoot all the varmints...be prepared to duck varmint parts at close range, and covered in blood mist, the stench of varmint guts. The old Hornady 50& 55 gr SX (super explosive) bullets work for this too, they were made for 14 twist 222 if you can find them. If ya have a lathe and milling machine you can hollow point and saw segments in bullets too...that's fun for subsonic.
