Most accurate?

Just came from the gun club playing with my new 6mmBR. A friend just let the wind out of my sails by telling me at long range,600 yards out to 800 yards) a 22-250 is more accurate than the 6mmBR, including calm and windy days. I'm shooting a 105 gr. bullet,Hornady A-max) with good results. In my 22-250 I use a 52 gr. Sierra Match King. I alway thought a heavier bullet would be better in the wind even though it's going slower. Could some one shed some light on this subject, please. Thanks.

I have both and fired both at 550 yards, the 6mmBR shooting an 80gr bullet crushed my 22-250 shooting a 55gr bullet. I can only imagine a 107gr bullet would do even better in the wind. JMHO

I would have to say it depends on the gun too. If both guns were Identical Id say the 6mmBR would win.

Now a 6mm-250 might be a tighter race.

Tell your friend to bring a 22-250 out and have a shoot off and see which is more accurate at 600-800 yds. My money would be on the 6BR unless the 250 was using a fast twist barrel with the 90grain Bergers.

My 6BR with 105 Berger VLD's shot 3 - 5 shot groups well under 3' at 600yds in competition.
Group 1. 2.23'
Group 2. 2.5'
Group 3. 2.9'

All were shot in 5-10mph wind conditions.

Take a look at this post at 6mmbr.com. How many benchrest and F-class records were set with 22-250 rifles in the last twenty years. None.

The 6mm BR is a superior 600 yard cartridge. You can argue that the 6 PPC is better at short range and some larger cartridges are better at 1000, but at 600, the 6BR excels.

Here is the light gun equipment list at the recent NBRSA 600-yard Nationals. The whole shebang was won by Sam Hall shooting a 6BR, and most of the balance of top 10 were 6BR or 6BR improved.

The 22-250 is a good cartridge, and it has spawned the 6XC which is a great target cartridge. But in the benchrest game you don't see many 22-250s on the podium. A friend of mine just today shot a .7' 3-shot group at 600 yards with his Savage 6BR. Factory barrel and all. 30.5 Varget, Berger 108s, .020' jump.

I hear so much outright BS about: rifles, cartridges, shooter ability, etc. that I tend to ignore it. My answer would be 'prove it', which is usually met with complete silence. Funny we seldom see these same people competing, shoulder to shoulder in matches. Excellent article on this subject in the October-December issue of Varmint Hunter magazine, page 65.
