most accurate rifle under $500?

I’ve had really good luck with Savage rifles, especially the 12FV.

I went 0 for 2 with Howa. Bought a short action and a long action. Both turned out to be duds. I sent the short action down the road and kept the long action in hopes of using it for the basis of a future build. I do like the actions, they just wouldn’t shoot for me.

Thompson Center Venture rifles shoot great for the money but you won’t find any accessories for it.

I don’t have any experience with a Tikka but I’ve never heard a bad thing about them.

The bottom line is that you can get a great shooting rifle for cheap these days, but it is somewhat of a gamble. There are going to be good and bad in all of these mass produced rifles. If i were making this decision today with a $500 budget, it would be between a Tikka and Savage. The decision would would boil down to my future use for the rifle. If you are the kind of person who will be happy with a good rifle as it comes I would probably go with the Tikka. If you like to work on stuff and upgrade, I would choose a Savage which also shoots great and is a lot like legos for adults.

Tika's uses long actions for all their calibers, so a 223 or 308 from tika are long actions ???
chet

Yes. The bolt stop can be changed from a short throw to a long for about $20. The issue is the bolt face. New bolts are $350. If you have a 223 and want to go to 308, it’s “wiser” to just buy another gun.

Google Eurooptic. Last time I checked, they had some Tikka T3s under $500.:) Great trigger! Smoothest factory bolt made.
I just checked! GO GET IT!!!
