Most accurate "out of the box" AR

Thinking about buying myself and my grand son an AR 15 for Christmas, and am looking for opinions on the most accurate
"out of the box". So it dosen't have to make a trip some where to get the work the factory should have done in the first place

I know I will get blasted for this but my armalite ar shot great out of the box with my handloads. My friend bought a bushmaster varminter and it shot good out of the box but then he rapid fired it repeatedly and that was the end of his good accuracy. If you could afford it , white oak armament builds a screamer right out of the box so to speak.

Depends on how much money you are willing to spend and how much accuracy you need. If you want the "Most accurate out of the box" and want to have that accuracy GUARANTEED, I'd suggest a Les Baer. They guarantee 1/2 MOA or less with 5 shots at 100 yards.

For cheaper, Rock River is almost always a solid, accurate, and affordable platform. Cheaper yet, I also have a Windham Weaponry that is very accurate.

The above posts are good advice. I will add that my first fclass rifle was a Windham Weaponry VEX-SS and it was not cheap, but very affordable and shot 1/2 moa with some load development. Could score in the low 140s out of 150 at 600 yds. Was good to 880 yds, but then the 20in barrel started to be a liability in the wind for velocity. Bought a second one and it was same accuracy as 1st one. My $0.02

The one you put the most rounds through. Just because a certain amount of money is spent doesn't mean accuracy is a sure thing. Buy a cheap one put 1K rounds through it and then tell me if it's not accurate. My most favorite rifle was a no better than 1.5" groups but there wasn't a thing I pointed it at that didn't die, most of the time with one shot.

I say save money and buy ammo.

I had a Rock River varmint model with the heavy 18" barrel, they guarantee a 3-shot 3/4" group at 100 and mine easily met that criteria, if I were in the market for another AR I would do Rock River in a heartbeat. They also have a great trigger from the factory, something that cannot be said for most AR's.

how old is he and what are you going to use it for? service rifle, distinguished badge- Gene clark upper or white oak. M4 for fun..noveske or Larue. If you are up for it make it special and complete an 80% lower with him from ARES Armor. NRA XTC Medesha or white oak or fulton armory. Just my .02

Unless your grandson is full grown be sure you get a rifle that fits him, you may need an M4 or something with a shorter than standard stock and not too heavy. I have taught a lot of juniors to shoot and they must have a gun that fits them.

Most accurate? That depends on what you are shooting out of it. I built my own lower for my Varmint AR and put a White Oak Armament upper on it. I handload and have shot a lot of .25-.35 groups out of it. If you shop around, I don't think they are that expensive.

Go to the the snipers hide 100 yard challenge. Nothing can beat the rock River as far as accuracy and reliability in that price range.

Might take a look at a Stag 6. I bought one about 3 yrs. ago, and it's done well. Shoots 1/2 in., with my hand loads, at 100 when I'm having a good day. Try to see one in person and handle it. They are a little heavy.

An update, a friend has offered to let us "play" with his Rock River Varmint. the one with the 20 " very heavy SS Bbl. so I'll take a 36X scope off a 338 L safe queen, process some brass, check the Sierra & Hornady "service rifle" loading manuals , load from 52's to 77's and see what this one and we can do.

Here's from a guy that had one. I bought a RR lower then found a 20" stainless 1" barrel and complete RR upper online someplace.. Bought it and proceeded to work up loads.. This combo was easliy under 1/2" most days from the bench with my pet load. Only problem I had was it was HEAVY.. I got to where I hated packin the thing around yote hunting.. And cleaning was a chore as the bolt was always filthy.

So after a few years I sold the upper and bought an Adams arms 16" complete upper w/piston system.. I am much happier with this setup as it is just handier for what I do. I have yet to clean the bolt as the gases just don't get in it and dirty things up. Accuracy? Well it is not as accurate so far as the RR barrel, but it does shoot 1" groups most times. I am still searching for that "magic" load.. I also took the Leupold scope off that I was using [4.5-14 VX3] and installed an EOTech sight.. This setup is way handy now and doesn't weigh a ton..

+1 I have one of their 26" in .223. It's a beast but it shoots.

I've put together a bunch of AR's and the most cosistient barrels are the ones from JP rifles. They sell complete rifles as well as parts. Look 'em up -you won't be disappointed.
