Montana moose hunt

When I became a resident and secured my first Montana hunting license my son in law and I went to bear creek up Hoodo Mt and came across a bull moose near the top on the first day. I figured heck this is going to be easy when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.
My trapper friend calls them ridge runners and we have them here in the flower creek drainage.

Wonderful story Tom, It’s one of the best hunting stories I have read in a while. The pictures show the beauty of that country and how difficult the hunt was. Congratulations on your trophy. Now you can give us another story about all the mule deer or goat hunt I see in your future.

I was on hoodoo on the 17th, and there had been some up there. I found a couple cows down closer to the truck sitting on the glass from up top there. All in all, there's a good number of moose in the unit as was more obvious once it snowed. But I wouldn't apply there again myself. That district has a lot of cover, and they live like vampires! My strongest assets are patience on good glass, and I can usually shoot okay.....it took a LONG time for any of that to pay off!

Oh yeah from what little I seen ,it’s brutal up there and maybe worse at the head of Libby creek above the gold fields, I took one look at that steep SOB and I knew there is no way I could hunt that.
