moly removal method?

was wondering if anyone had a easy way to remove moly from bullets that were coated. i used midway moly and tumbled them to coat them awhile back. i found a good load uncoated and would like to remove the moly if possible? i have them in my vibrating tumbler but it doesnt seem to be doing very much.. any ideas??

I've done it with a tumbler and corn media on both home- and commercially-coated bullets with good results. I've had better results with Lyman treated media cleaning bullets than with plain.

Don't know why you're having trouble, but you can try changing out the media once or twice with fresh if it's getting contaminated quickly. Don't try to clean more than perhaps 50-75 at a time either... more if their small caliber & light weight, less if they're large & heavy.

Try adding a tablespoon of mineral spirits (paint thinner) to the corn media too, but don't run the tumbler inside a structure when you do this! The thinner is flammable & there's a slight risk it could catch fire if the vapors somehow reach your tumbler motor.

Some folks think shooting plain bullets after moly-coated in the came barrel is a bad idea. I'm not convinced this is true (I shoot with a sling, off a shooting pad on the ground) but if you regularly shoot groups measuring under .1 you may notice the change.

I tumbled some 190 berger VLD's for a friend of mine that just did not want to commit to the moly. i used corn cob media with Mcguires car cleaner-wax and 4 hours later they were done. i did 100 round batches. i also tried to soak some in acetone and it did not help ...even with rubbing.

Let 'em soak for about 10 minutes in "GM Top Engine Cleaner", then tumble dry in an old bath towell. Worked for me, like magic. :)
