removing moly from bullets

Hi, has anyone had experience with or know how to remove moly from bullets. I've got 200 that I tumbled moly on sometime ago and no longer wish to use it.thanks

before you tumble, drop them in concentrated lemon juice for about a half hour and shake them around a bit. This will take off a good bit of the moly.

Do you then get a "lemon fresh scent" when firing the bullets?? :D

I cleaned mine by putting them into a sock, then into my tumbler, covering with household ammonia and running for just a few minutes. I then remove and rinse well and tumble bare, again with ammonia, and they are clean as new after 5 minutes and a final rinse with fresh water. And yes, they measure the same and shoot as well as a never-molyed bullet.

Note well: After doing this routine, you will never again doubt the quick effectiveness of any ammonia based bore cleaner in removing moly from your barrel.

I have used the Iosso Case Cleaner Kit, and it takes the moly off in under five minutes. If I want the shine back on them, I will then tumble them in treated media and polish them.

Cordially,

I revived this thread, from 2006) because I also need to remove the moly from many hundreds on .224 cal bullets.

I was just wondering if there are any other methods to successfully remove moly from bullets before I start experimenting?

I am going to soak some in Citrnox for a few hours and put them in the ultrasound and see what happens.

easiest way is to use some Dawn liquid detergent in some warm/hot water in bucket. Place bullets in and stir/shake for a few minutes then pour out water and rinse with hot water then place in tumbler.

Thanks Will, didn't try that yet but I did get the moly off with my ultrasound.

I made a solution of water with a third vinegar and a few drops of dish liquid.I ran the bullets two full cycles,480 seconds per cycle) and it all came off.Note the bullet on the right was moly coated by Berger and is now bare but dull.I figure the shine is gone from the peening in the moly process.
