Model 722

Hello gentlemen , I have picked up a Remington model 722, I am wanting to find a stock for it after my barrel is done. Will this gun fit into a model 700 stock... i realize that the bottom metal is different but, what else would i have to do to make it work. Boyds only offers a classic remington style and, i want to put a thumb hole stock on it. Is there any other options. I have many other types of rifles but this is my first Remington ... other than a 788.

It can be made fit in a 700 stock with very little work, mainly just the area where the safety sets...

You can add one of these, they are drop in, no machining. I just bought one. Adam

The tang of the 722 is thicker top to bottom then a 700. The 722 will set up higher and doesn't look quite right when using a 700 inlet. It will function fine but looks somewhat out of place. Installed a 40-X(722) action into a 700 stock and kinda wished now I wouldn't have. I also machined some metal from right side of tang so it would accept the 700 safety lever. You could also use a bottom safety Jewell etc if you need a safety or as mentioned a safety on the bolt shroud.

I do the same thing with a 722 only using a grinder.....take a little off the right side of the tang to where it's like a 700, true it with a file, then emery cloth, polish and cold blue. Not much needs to come off and the whole thing takes only about an hour. Then use a 700 trigger. I'll sometimes change stocks and barrels on an action and didn't want to alter a 700 stock for the 722. The tang edges fit ok, no problem with that. Also I use a 700 bolt and BDL floorplate.
