Model 700 Rem Extractor question

I know that many people will have a Sako Extractor installed on there .223 bolts for positive extraction.
Is this possible on a Magnum bolt face?

Yes, You can do Sako style or M-16 style extractors. The M-16 style we used to have to open the counterbore on the chamber end up 0.090 or so, It's been a long time since I worked with my boss and we did these so, They may have some now that don't need the couterbore opened up.

When the extractor slips over the rim it has to have the clearance to do so.

Are you having extraction problems now? If not, I would leave it be. I prefer to install Mini M-16 style extractors when the oem extractor is failing. Depending on the barrel counterbore diameter it may need to be opened up.

No problems,
Was just wondering. I shoot a 375 H&H quite often and it got me thinking, you here a lot of African hunter say that they would only carry bolt action rifle with control feed extractors with there large claw. Was wondering of a modification to a 700 magnum bolt face was possible and what extractor would be used

A Sako or M-16 Extractor does not convert your action to CRF "Controlled Round Feed" Leaving it stock would probably be safer to carry to Africa, rather than converting it to something it wasn't designed for.

A Claw extractor system such as Mauser or Pre 1964 Winchester, Or Winchester Classic,1903 Springfield Etc. These are controlled round feed.

My friend has built several Rem 700 rifles that have been to Africa with good success.

Thanks for the clarification
I will never be going to Africa.....But i do like to pretend.
The 375 is a lot of fun with reduced cast bullet loads.

The big game guys seem to worry about the "ping" when a round comes out of the magazine on push feed rifles. The noise does not occour in nature (well, not in the African plains - no wind chimes), which alerts the game, apparently. I remember an article in one of the mags - American Rifleman? On the subject of the temperature stability of Weatherby calibres in Africa and suitability of US rifles.

LRI Longrifles probably do as much of this as anyone. I've sent work to them once about ten years ago for external bolt release and the work was quick, flawless, and reasonable. I've several buds who've had bolt work including extractors and not heard any negatives about them from my buds who've used them.
