Extractor Question

i have a Rem 788 in 222 Rem that's seen better days. I was wondering if I could have the bolt face opened to accept a PPC or SPC size cartridge and have a Sako or M16 style extractor installed?

I have not seen any parts for a 788 bolt anywhere...especially a replacement bolt. I heard it's a difficult job just to replace the extractor and rivet. Am I barking up the wrong tree or are there other alternatives short of using a different action?

See if rem 600 extractors are still available for the 35 remington . Bolt face opened up a little to the 35 rem / 6 pPC . I don't have any specs in frt of me just going off memory .

Open the bolt face up in your 788 bolt to .460".
Cut the inside nose to specification & install a riveted extractor of 700/40X vintage.

Cutting a 788 bolt nose to fit a SAKO type or Mini 16 extractor makes me cringe!!


edited .473" to .460" face diameter.

It already has the .473 bolt face . But the pPC is APRX .450
